The Galway racing festival in Ireland has been running successfully for many years now.Everybody attends; at least they cannot remember not attending.

I see you have omitted South America. Maybe because they have been running one- and two-day festivals for longer than the US has? On the day (or weekend) of a great wfa like the Gran Premio Carlos Pellegrini or the Grande Premio Brasil since at least the 1970s, if not before, a G1 race for milers and a G1 race for sprinters as well. A G1 filly & mare race has been added since then; previously, the mares ran with guys (and many still do). These are all 'Internacionales', that attract top horses from other racing countries of the continent.

And what is Royal Ascot, especially in its previous 4-day format, but a supreme festival? Races for all sorts of horses, stayers and sprinters, young and older - top races for all levels, including the handicappers. There is a reason the Aussie sprinters started running at Royal Ascot 15 years ago - it is the place where you prove you are world class.

Sorry, Breeders' Cup. A World Championship you are not. Too many unnecessary races, like the 2yo turf races, and dividing the Turf and Sprint into male and female versions (the ladies did fine against the guys, so why change it?).

Has Robert left UPI to be on staff for BloodHorse? Would love to see him have a similar "Weekend Racing Preview around the world" as he did for so long with UPI. I was disappointed recently that his regular weekly weekend preview racing columns were no longer appearing at UPI. His was the only comprehensive racing coverage all over the world, written in a nice, easy to follow style. Hope he will be able to continue his coverage world-wide.
