My heros ! Julie helped SO much to pave the way for other women Jockeys because of her courage & determination, and ESPECIALLY for never allowing the fact that she is a woman to stand in the way of her goals! I have always looked up to Julie Krone and still love to see her when ever she appears at the big races & does commentaries.

I look forward to reading this new book and adding it to my library, as well as reading (and adding ) the book of Julie's.

I saw Julie ride on the Jockeys Series (DVD) when all the retired Jockeys raced that time. "You can still REALLY ride & so could the MEN " !!! You rode like you were just a part of the horse, I'll bet that race was SO fun too & brought back some wonderful memories ! I know I love watching it. Excellent hands & balance.WOW.

re: Women Riders Stepping Up

I am going to check out this book and for more information on female jockeys, vist my website:

When I was a kid there was no question about it, I knew that I was going to be a jockey when I grew up. In my mind I already was a jockey. I was a jockey riding in the big races in my imagination when I galloped my mare through golf courses, graveyards and across public beaches (it made the golfers and life guards very angry). Back then there was a round-ish quarter mile sand road through the water-works property. My friends and I held impromptu races at the water-works "race track." We were young, and we were jockeys.

I'm sure lots of kids have passion for something, but life talks them out of it. Hopefully those dreamers will read this book and be inspired.

Now I'm 50 and I have this crazy dream to go to groom school, and try to get a job grooming horses.

I groom and exercise a couple of horses a few times a week, for some friends. I am very happy to have that opportunity. I still have my crazy dream, and day dreaming is free.

jockey can be just as strong in the finish as their male counterparts and was rewarded for it by becoming the first female jockey to win a Triple Crown race

and the first female to win a Breeders Cup race. What is not so well known about Julie Krone is one year she ventured to England were she won a race at the Northern English seaside track,Redcar were she absolutely

thrilled the holiday makers by winning a race.

This year Chantal Sutherland became the first female jockey to

win the Santa Anita H,cap,something

I am sure that will be with her for the rest of her life.

In England Hayley Turner became the first female British jockey to win a 100 races in a season.North American racing fans will get a chance to see her when she takes part in a promotional event at Pimlico in May.

I had to smile when Ms. Kitaj said Julie Krone was "incredibly agile and athletic"---when she participated in our Jockey Challenge at Lone Star Park in the late nineties, she did back-flips across the track while being introduced to the crowd. She appeared to have explosive energy levels! Thanks for the interview!
