It’s even more unusual when both of those twins end up thriving in their respective careers.
This is a very touching story. So sad that Coco died, perhaps had the vet been there the McGuire's would have had a happier result. The twins are adorable as babies. I assume that the above picture is of Boomer. Any chance of seeing a picture of Bella? I hope they have a long happy life with owners who are as loving and caring as Jan and James.

It was also interesting to read two of the blogs about other twins who have survived and went on to have success racing and at stud. Bless them all.

Beautiful twins; they will do well, no matter where they go, or what they are asked to do.

So sorry for the loss of the mom.

I'm puzzled, though, by some of the reported facts:

1. With a mare of such history, it's a bit hard to swallow how a vet could have repeatedly missed identifying in-utero those twins. Was the mare checked (properly) at the appropriate times?

2. These owners certainly appear not to be penny pinchers, and the types to go the extra mile. So again, with a mare of this known history, why wasn't a vet present for the birth?

Pedigree Ann-

Horses almost never have identical twins-there are only a few (and I do mean few) reported cases in the literature.

Very sad about Coco but thank goodness her two incredible kids made it. I hope we'll get the odd update on them as they move ahead into whatever their unexpected future holds for them. From the description of his temperament, ability and conformation, he would have made a great sire of hunter ponies and sport ponies. I am so glad that both twins have thrived despite their rocky start in life.

A friend stood a stallion in Kelowna called Yoonevano. I believe he's pensioned now. He was one half of twins, he never raced. He's so handsome, but small, and he's thrown a few runners, both stakes winners & SP runners.

He's by Seattle Slew out of a Halo mare. He is a half brother to Preakness Stakes winner and sire Pine Bluff, Grade 1 winner and sire Demons Begone, and stakes-placed winner Angel Fever, dam of 2000 Kentucky Derby (G1) winner and Preakness runner-up Fusaichi Pegasus. Really great family.

They were named Stop on Red and Go on Green. Both went into training, both won at 2 (GOG won 5 times in 10 starts at 2!) and each won 7 races in their racing careers. Both twins became broodmares and foaled winners, but SOR did better, producing 2 SWs and 2 SP winners, one of them a Promised Land filly named Spectacular - you know her better as the dam of Spectacular Bid.

SOR and GOG appear to have been identical twins, while Bella and Boomer are obviously fraternal twins.

Oh, and Danger Ahead had foals the two years after her twins and seems to have lived for another 8 years or more. Happy ending for this mum.

For an update my off the track thoroughbred Touch of Success "Star" is being trained as a hunter jumper and after the winter off she is looking much better has more weight and has better action and after her second time riding has started to learn lead changes I am so happy for her after a very tough winter in northern Ohio she got thrush abceses in all four feet and no hoof wall she is starting to look like a wonderful little horse :) I love her she is amazing
