Thanks for sharing Ester - Barbara, Kristi and the FOB's have done a fabulous job with DD. He lives like a king and lacks for nothing. I wish the same for all the other OTTB's.

I'm in WA and work for an animal rescue. While they don't do OTTB work, I'm sure they have some connections. What's the name of Alex's daughter? Can you send me more details?

Glad to know there are still people who care and love these animals after they are no longer able to bring in a pay check. We all need to work harder to keep these nobel creatures out of slaughter houses. God bless all.

This is a great story of rescue and there ought to be more rescue adventures.

These horses need us to help them.

Just look at what happened to Dyna King who is a half brother to

Barbaro (same father). He is doing well now, thank God.

Thanks again, Esther, for highlighting yet another racing warrior. It's blogs like yours that continue to spotlight what is so needed in the racing industry. Futures for tbreds whose racing careers are over, but need a new life and 2nd career. So much praise for Barbara Lively and the FOBs in ensuring that DD will have a long and happy life after the race track.

Great story. I am a FOB and proud to be one and am always delighted to hear another story about FOBs saving horses. We do this in memory of Barbaro, as part of his legacy. I remember DD very well and am glad he is safe. Another job well done. We FOBs are descending on Churchill Downs on April 29 (his birthday)) to pay our respects to Barbaro at his final resting place. It has been five years.

What a lovely story about a very kind human and a beautiful race horse who needed a friend and a home.

While I followed Barbaro on a daily basis I had no idea that Alex Brown Racing existed and was involved in equine rescue. Thank you for the information. aside from purchasing the book, how would one donate towards DD's care?

What a marvelous story. These are the things I have always enjoyed writing over the years as a turf writer, as well as illegal drug use. I miss the time I used to spend on the farm and under the shedrow. You never truly realize how much you miss it until it is no longer part of your daily regimen. One of my favorite claimers was named Ode. He was trained by Dick Moon and boy was he a character. I think John Longden used to ride him if my memory is right. Ran in the last race of the day at Santa Anita and those were memories I will never forget. I was a hot walker at the time. Wow!
