&lt;p&gt;I agree with Nina though. Don&amp;#39;t breed Fifty unless you plan on forever keeping the resulting foal. There are far, far too many mares being bred all over the world. There are not enough good homes for all the horses. Many are abused, neglected, or forced to perform while hurt or sick. Tragically, many go to slaughter. Enjoy Fifty. Don&amp;#39;t add to the horse overpopulation problem.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Miss Fifty was fortunate in that she had Mary Cage looking out for her every step of the way, making sure that every owner and trainer who handled her knew that this filly had a passionate advocate watching and a forever home waiting.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Every thoroughbred - no, every horse - should be as lucky as this beautiful filly!&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;She was in no danger of being put down. Many years ago I was given a horse off the harness track, a pacer, who was turning 15 years old. I had him for 10 years and together we had wonderful experiences. I hope many others will have this same experience.&lt;/p&gt;

I love reading these articles about OTTB&amp;#39;s going to loving homes. &amp;nbsp;Back in the 70&amp;#39;s and 80&amp;#39;s I bought a number of OTTB&amp;#39;s, some in dire straits, got them back in shape and found them new homes. &amp;nbsp;At that time there was still a horse slaughter house here, and many of them ended up there.&lt;/p&gt;
