I have been focusing on more on stallion news for the magazine and website, and with that plus sale coverage, I've been extremely busy since I returned from maternity leave. But I'm determined to still update my blog

re: OTTB Spotlight: Prime Cut

Hope many sunny days are in his future...Ms. Brogden saved Prime Cut from a unpleasant fate after he had given his all...Sad but a fact...Kudos to her and others like her...

And high-hooves to Carrie Brogden for being a wonderful example of a caring and responsible breeder/owner. I totally agree with her approach of leading by example rather than getting on a soap box. Change oftentimes takes longer than we would like. Thanks for shining a light on one of the "good guys"!

Carrie is a wonderful person to care so much about her horses.....wish there were more like her. Prime Cut is gorgeous and I wish him the best!! I'm following a horse right now that I plan to keep tabs on until he retires. He's a son of Point Given and I fell in LOVE at first sight. His name is Napa Valley from Brazil. He's raced 3 times out of the money and was recently gelded. I hope I can find a way to afford him when his time is up. I'll let you know.

Some tracks do have programs where small percentages are donated, but I think they are all volunatary at this point.

Yet another reason to strongly consider changing the sale / racing rules in some way to make mandatory the setting aside of a percentage of the sale price or purse to pay for retirement.

It doesn't even have to be a big percentage. Would 0.5% or something like that break the bank???

Anyways, Prime Cut is lovely and lucky.

Keep us posted.
