As a former owner, and huge racing fan, I will vote todays article as my personal favorite. I always look to read heartwarming, and positive endings to a well written article. Chrissy, deserves the best, and bravo to all the connections of this beautiful horse.

I go to Morrisville State College and my favorite racing moment for 2013 was when the mare I have taken care at school for the past 4 years, Hot Idea, broke her mainden her first time out! I was so proud of her! Not only did she win (and her win photo is proudly hung in my dorm room) but blood horse did an article on our school's Thoroughbred program and the put Hot Idea's win photo in the article!

Thanks for getting the word out about a rescue I haven't heard of... their Valentine fundraiser definitely sounds pretty cool. I really hope to see more of these OTTB spotlights, there are so many great stories that go unheard that I know people would love to read about. Great work Esther!

What a great story about a beautiful mare.

Among dozens of fabulous racing moments last year, I sure did enjoy Ron the Greek's devastating romp in the Jockey Club Gold Cup.

Can't have just one favorite moment...Mucho Macho Man in the BC tops the list, but ALL the races Paynter ran in are a tie with that one race. Sometimes it's not just about winning!

I'll be sending a Valentine or two from all the horses at my little horse rescue. Great Story!

best 2013 thoroughbred racing Moment of the Year was seeing Gary Stevens win the Preakness in his comeback, then top it off with a win in the Breeders Cup Classic for heart transplant trainer recipient Kathy Ritvo

Wonderful story, with such a happy ending. I'm going to send a Valentine's card to Double L. My 2013 story isn't related to one particular moment, but rather to one of the best days I spent last year. I've been a fan of horse racing for years but have never actually been to the track, except to see the trotters with my Dad when I was a kid. I don't live particularly close to any track, but last year for the first time I finally got there (Santa Anita) and it was fantastic. I was there to see Goldencents win the Santa Anita Derby and Beholder win the Oaks - what a day - beautiful facility, gorgeous weather, huge crowd, and I even won a little money. My husband, who was not particularly interested in racing, wants to go back again this year - he has become a fan. Santa Anita is several hours' drive from our home, but I'm eager to get back again. You can watch racing all day on TV, but nothing beats being there to see it live.

As for a favorite racing memory from 2013, I loved seeing Oxbow and Gary Stevens win the Preakness. (Other top contenders: Orb winning the Derby, Mizdirection in the BC Turf Sprint, and Wise Dan in the BC Mile.)

Hi Esther, I love these stories and hearing more about the second careers of OTTBs. I am the foster mom for horses in the Second Call Thoroughbred Adoption and Placement organization (sctap.com). We have a horse in our program who has become our mascot - Fleet Valid. He has an extraordinary story -- if you ever want to feature a horse in the New Jersey area. He has even attracted a bit of a fan club - most of whom don't even know his racing past. He's just a real ham who can't be ignored when you are in his presence. And a great "spokeshorse" for the OTTB community.

The best moment for me last year was watching my horse that I bred, raised, and rode actually get to race. I wasn't even going to race him. I was riding him just like he was going to be my next hunter, when a couple friends, Steve Cronenwett and Frankie Lavato Jr , convinced me to try him at the track. They both felt like he could run. So, he made his first start at the age of 5 in a maiden special weight at Thistledown. Well, he broke his maiden first time out! I couldn't believe it! While I know it's not a big time race or horse, I felt like I won my own Derby! I was so proud, and am looking forward to 2014 racing with him!

Not really a gambler (go to OTB to see the races) but did bet $2 on Nobel Moon to win his very first race(MSW)@ The Big A because he was bred in Va. by the late Ned Evans and I like Malibu Moon...He paid $52.80 to win and that was the largest ticket I cashed in 2013!!!...Needless to say he's my Derby Horse this year...ty...
