I am thrilled that CV won the WM, but a tad (OK, a LOT) bummed, I boxed the tri with CV, UQT and Crowded House...as Maxwell Smart would say "missed it by that much"...darn Woodbourne..but hey...

Dr D, Jack Benny, and Zookeeper - I was just thinking of heading out there, but I don't think I can swing it. I would LOVE to see her break the Great Eclipse's record. Especially after reading all the Secretariat stories and all the regrets that people had, I'm really torn. Ah, to win the lottery! I've decided that I will visit her at her farm someday.

mz - I read about Galikova! And Goldikova's full brother will be on his way soon, Universe Willing.

Footlick: they're thinking of the Prix de l'Abbaye for Zebedee (I'm spelling it wrong, I'm sure) and the big worry for his team: whether his jockey can make the weight! (2YO's get great breaks vs older horses)

Also, don't know where to put this but here: baby Goldikova is coming up: Galikova (her half sister by Galileo) just won impressively today. Looks like it's possible that the family has BC Miles sewn up for a few more years!

I'm still enamored of Aces 'N Kings, the 2yo "teaser" colt Jason introduced to us a couple of months ago. He's won all of his races (4, iirc, maybe 5), each going a little longer. His last was the Sonny's Halo S. at LA Downs on 8/28, his first try at a mile. He came to the front from the outside post position, then rated nicely in 2nd and pressed the pace before taking off like a rocket, winning by 6 or so.

Just wanted to throw him into the mix! :-)

Dr D - I just went to Pedigree Query and saw that - after I read your post. It's a great name. Hey, are you going to organize the Blog Groupie Meetup?

My favorite 2yo so far is Alexandra Rylee. I LOVE her name! Don't imagine she'll be on the Derby Trail, but who knows? Another horse that just grabbed me when I saw her photograph - it was weird - and her last race, the Glens Falls, was Keertana. She's a 4yo.

Zookeeper - I've heard you do great at the races! Keep it up! I also wanted to thank you for the Runflatout update on the other blog. I'm glad you'll be getting to see him soon. I've been surprised at how much I think of you and him and how it's going, so I appreciate the updates. Poor little guy.

I'm not as excited about The Woodbine Mile as I hoped I'd be. I couldn't find a longshot. The Usual Q.T. is the one to beat and my top pick, with Famous Name and Grand Adventure being my next choices. Those are posts 11, 12, and 13. I do not see the outside posts as being any problem. It's an interesting race but I'm getting ready for Keeneland which starts Oct. 8th, and looking forward to October 2nd, a huge day with big Classic implications. I tried to like Straight Story but I don't think he's good enough to hold off the onslaught. I hate picking a favorite but Q.T. is the closest to a turf monster in here, and is explosive. He's very versatile. I don't know why some are saying that he's not really a miler. He's 5 for 5 at a mile !!! The only races he lost in the last year were at Dubai, and on AW. If the turf is firm, he's the top pick. Court Vision is certainly capable of winning. He won off of a similar layoff on soft turf at a mile. I just don't see him getting the win here. He's facing some sharp horses. I think 57 days since last for Victor's Cry is good for him, and he'll run good, I just don't think he's as good as Q.T. I don't think the mile is the right distance for Crowded House or Smokey Fire.

Billy- yeah, I can't see the turf being a problem for her. She certainly will be a deserving favorite. It looks like it will be a very deep field.

ruffianruns- I'd like to wait a little until the field is more firmed up and we can see what the course will be like. I think Sarafina has to be given a chance given her long layoff and her flying finish in the Vermeille. Fame and Glory is going to have to be awfully good to come into the Arc off his layoff. Bekhabad and Planteur seem pretty equal. But I won't make up my mind until closer to raceday. My hunch bet would be Sarafina at the moment.
