I agree! Big Ci! was the best who ever lived, I challenge anyone to find a racehorse who accomplished what Citation did before injury, 27 of 29 including beating the defending horse of the year twice before the triple crown while winning a stakes between the preakness and belmont. If you don't know about him go read about him because his story is the stuff of legend. Man O War, Secretariat, The Bid, and Kelso there all so good, but Big Ci! was the best.

Secretariat over Man O War, Citation 3rd, Damascus 4th. Slew and Bid next.

I dont think a single horse that raced after the Bid retired would crack the top 10.

Barb: I think that if Big Cy was very fit by the Hollywood and getting better than he probably could have had one helluva 6 yr old season to leave on. I am gonna have to find that interview with Arcaro to watch:)

As for the Bewitched beating, I read that Cy was held back since Calumet had their 1-2-3 placing and also that there was a possiblity of holding back to make sure she came up with the win. The jockey (can't remember name...dang! sorry!) even kicked himself in the aft for letting him be beaten like that.

Cy wasn't sterile, he just did not get any mini Cys in his crops, there was a filly that did pretty good though. Calumet even tried to replicate Citation in a full sibling which didn't not go as planned.

Maybe you were confused because when Secretariat was named HOY at two he beat out Le Prevoyant, a 2 y-o filly, the only time that two year olds finished one-two in HOY balloting.

Mike S - I like your field choices for Division B VERY MUCH - but I believe Native Dancer belonged in Division A since he is truly an all time great and I would still love to see Whirlaway on the list. Time for Division C.....?

MZ - you are correct - I did not know about Moccasin but she was named HOTY at two. I had read in an article about Secretariat that he was the 2nd - but actually just the second colt I guess. Thanks!

I do not know Draynay...I promise!

Mom's was an excellent horse and she certainly got some consideration on the larger list, but she received no top 10 votes.

Shuvee was a wonderful mare for several years, but the fact that Gallant Bloom defeated her the last four times they raced was her downfall in narrowly missing the top 10.

Shuvee has to make the top five or six. Don't forget she won the Jockey Club Gold Cup at 2-miles agains males two years running and to show that she didn't shy away from the males, she finished third in the Whitny.

Mom's Command never saw a maiden or allowance race. All her races were stakes.

Mom's was beaten enough not to quite make the cut...Shuvee is interesting but she was really no match for Gallant Bloom in several races...I have Rachel first on my list, but this was a consensus of nine horse racing nuts.

I don't think Rachel should be second, maybe in the top ten, but definitely not second. She would go down to at least eighth or nineth at this point on my list.

Where's Mom's Command? Her profile is unbelievable and she defeated Lady's Secret.

Warren Moon put up huge #'s running the run'n'shoot---getting hit EVERY time (with no back) AND delivering--He makes my top tep easy---Also in Young's defense (!!), he did not always have a running game he could count on--THEY KNEW he was going to pass, and run, and they could not stop him....agree on Elway at the top, When he finally got HIS running game, made ya think, "What if...."....Thinking there's a resurgence of good new QB talent right now....

Yeah, barb, I noticed someone said Citation was sterile, too. He was not sterile; was the damsire of 33 stakes winners and sired Fabius, a Preakness winner.

Ted from LA---Give some sort of clue. Are you asking about a "team" sport such as basketball, or a sport that has both teams and individual events such as swimming? Is this coach currently coaching?

Racingfan: I think Mocassin was named co-horse of the year in 1965 as a 2YO by one of the voting entities. That would make her the 2nd 2YO HOY, not Secretariat (if I'm remembering right.

Sort of funny, when you consider the male 2YO champ that year was Buckpasser (I think)

Why are Affirmed and Seabiscuit 8-1 and 10-1, while Bid is 10-1, Slew and Forego 15-1??? As a handicapper I have to take the odds...Bid at 10-1? Come on!!! I'm not sure who was better Bid or Secretariat, but I know they were the best 2 I ever saw run. As far as the before I was born crew, I would take Man 'O War over Citation with Count Fleet and Kelso third and fourth.

BTW, as a gigantic Rachel fan (you are not alone Draynay) I created a fantasy female race open to all females of the past forty years and got votes from all my horse racing friends. The results....
