Thanks Mr Campbell for reflecting on the Greatest jockey ! I was one of the lucky kids to have ridden work with such a man while riding out for Henry Cecil in the 70,s..congratulations !!! with palace malice.

Interesting article but Secreto ridden by Christ Roche beat El Gran Senor. Teenoso easily beat Carlingford Castle in the 1983 Derby with the V O'Brien trained Salmon Leap 4th

His "taciturn, dour penurious, nature", it takes a great raconteur to make that sound loving! Thank you for your memories on Lester Piggott. I used to watch him ride when I was a girl and he was a special favorite of my father. And yes congratulations to you and Palace Malice...he is a very special horse!

Lights Are On, you are correct Secreto won the 1984 Epsom Derby over El Gran Senor. Piggott had won the Derby on Teenoso the previous year. Even though Piggott was not on the winner in 1984, he still wanted to let El Gran Senor's connections know that he might have made a difference in the short head that determined the outcome.

Lester was indeed the best. Saw him at Ascot decades ago, and people just stared in awe at the presence of this very talented rider.
