What a wonderful man and this is a moving and fascinating article and a lovely tribute to him. I laughed about the peacocks! I have had to round up an escaping rock hopper penguin at a bird park but he was slower and easier to catch! I loved him but he was always escaping!

It is so important to tell people we like and value them in their lifetime and not leave it until it is too late isn't it?

I only hope Eddie KNEW he was respected and loved during his LIFE ON EARTH - and that a poignant, well written article such as this is not just an epitaph and footnote to a life now gone.

I wish I'd known him............

I just now got around to reading this article. It is a shame that we realize how important these people are to us and the industry now that they are gone. I remember as a child at Greenwood Racetrack in Toronto bein introduced by my father to the bootlegger there called Pinky Brown. Not knowing until a few weeks later when he gave me a book abt the Triple Crown Champions that he was The Pinky Brown who galloped Whirlaway. Many people to this day didnt know that and that was ashame. Im glad that Eddie got the recognition that he deserved, if only everyone did.

I had just recently seen a piece on Eddie on television - think it was HRTV. Thought he was marvelous. How sad he is gone for people like me who just now have heard about him, but I am so glad I at least knew about him. What a national treasure!
