Evan: Gonzo would be proud. I only wish that your article was six pages long rather than one. Also, your comment about ".....accept the Derby for what it is to the general public....." was very perceptive and certainly reflected an understanding of what is happening to our sport today.

Incisive piece Evan. Steinbeck once called the Derby the most violent two minutes in sports. I don't think he was speaking about the race itself. Yeas ago when I went to my first Derby I heard tales of people who regularly attended and "never saw so much as a horse's tail go by." As you suggest, that's hard to take, but we do have to let go.
