Personally from my own point of view it has been a pleasure and a privilege to have riden with an amateur who displayed the professionalism and class you have always shown. Thank you. Also good job Sean.

Now that my kids are grown, I've been wondering what I want to do when I grow up.

It's 2010, baby, 60 is the new forty...I know plenty of 60 year olds (heck 70 year-olds) motorcycling cross country, endurance riding, mountain climbing, hiking...

When I hit 60 I'll still be riding my motorcycle, horses, hiking, etc...

Too bad Dick Francis has passed and won't have the opportunity to write another mystery using Mr. Santoro as a central figure. It would have been a delight.

I think you're an even better writer then when you were a jump jock. And you were were one of the best. Billy, as guy who did not ride his first sanctioned race until age 52 I could not have said it better. For some reason I thought you had been around a bit longer and that I might have held the title of the oldest idiot to ride over fences for the first time.

And for those of you who think that the challenges and thrills of life ends at age 30 or even 40 let this be a lesson. A few years back I was on a solo climb in the Andes on a mountain that is considered a prep for Everest. I was slogging my way up with a heavy pack exhausted after hitting high camp at 20,000 feet thinking to myself maybe I am getting too old for the high country something I have been doing since I was a kid. I got to chatting with a guy who was obviously older then I. He was 72 and going to Everest the next climbing season! And he was lucky enough to have to see the view in person from the top of the world. But even if he didn't make the summit the shear fact that he was on the mountain would have been good enough. I may never win the Maryland Hunt Cup but hopefully I will have chance just to get on the mountain.
