Good job Storm Cat....enjoy your paddock days!

I also think that SUNDAY SILENCE, DANEHILL and SADLER'S WELLS are better sires. I would say that in the last 10-12 years those 3 sires are the world's best. I would put STORM CAT at #4 or #5, which is an excellent ranking.

Enormous stud fees, and ridiculous yearling prices, are bad for thoroughbbred racing because, ultimately, they're bad for the horses because the majority of horses can never even win back 10% of their purchase price or stud fee cost on the racetrack. Rich folks tend to have loads and loads of cash to pay a $500,000 stud fee for Storm Cat, or $1,000,000 (or WAY more) on a yearling, but when that horse's "promise" (of a Kentucky Derby, or whatever) doesn't come true those same rich people, with endless amounts of money, suddendly don't have the money to pay for boarding costs and food for the horse, and they horse ends up in the slaughterhouse.

I think it's reprehensible. And sometimes I understand some of my friends who hate horse racing because they think it's "100% pure exploitation." I don't agree with them, though, because I think we have some good people in racing who really love the horses. Sadly, though, I think we have too many people to whom the horse is a mere commodity, to be exploited to the fullest.

re: Storm Cat Rising?

His stature can be easily judged by not only his Sire Statistics...but how many horses have books written about them while they are still alive and active?? (OK, Monarchos, but I consider that a case of a Newpaper man writing a 300 page advertisement for his breeding business as much as a nice book). How many readers have become Thoroughbred owners because of "$tud"?

As Northern Dancer and Native Dancer before them, today's greats, Storm Cat and A.P. Indy will be gracing the pages of pedigrees for decades to come! There influence as both Sires of Sires and Broodmare Sires is already being felt in the industry. Not to mention the excitement and value that brought by a cross of the two. A.P. Indy crossed with a Storm Cat Mare or Storm Cat crossed with an Indy Mare, screams class both as a race prospect and as a Sire Prospect.

One such offspring, JUMP START, is a young stallion that I think has gone unnoticed. With 9 stakes winners, and 2 graded, he is performing much better than his number 48 ranking would indicate. All the while being mated to subpar mares in comparison to his rivals.

As Storm Cat leaves the breeding shed behind, and frolicks in his pasture...his fans have one very strong question....why has he not been named a chef-de-race yet?????
