Racing opportunities for early two-year-olds have all but disappeared in the last 15 years. Very few stakes in New York, California, Florida and Illinois now exist for babies until mid to late summer.

And, on the whole, even the big summer and fall meets offer only a fraction of the large 2yo purses they once did.

So why the insistence on pushing these young horses to :09 3/5 and :20 1/5 workouts in the spring?

ALL 2 year old in training sales should be cancelled and banned. Those horses are WAY too young to be training that hard and going that fast even if it is only 1/8 of a mile. We don't start working our horses any distances until at least May or June of their 2 year old year and even then, they have to be telling us that they're ready for it.
