I believe he'd have won the Derby by 3-5 lengths and the Preakness by 5-9 lengths and be going for the Triple Crown. I hope he's doing well and has a great new career producing Triple Crown hopefuls. If NY loses racing just move The Belmont Stakes to Monmouth.

This is the most interesting of the 3 races to me. There are a lot of horses I like, and some are growing on me like Dublin. Lukas has said all along that he's a really good one. I guess Linda in Texas is hauling the BBQ pits, getting a head start. I think we're all meeting at Steve's house for a big hoedown, humdinger of a BBQ. Then we're all going to be on And They're Off. We just don't know what year it will be.

Slew-I like your four top picks. They are on the fence with Setsuko. The poor guy hasn't even run on dirt yet and that should be his favorite. Dublin ran great in The Preakness. I though his goose was cooked.

re: Super Saver and Me

Slew, I was thinking of something supercharged like a Hemi, not a shopping spree - lol!

Zookeeper - yes, you need to share your strategy, although I'm not much of a bettor. Congratulations on your winning!

Dr. D - it'll be very interesting to see Setsuko and Ice Box in the Belmont. Several sites were commenting that the Belmont wasn't going to have much interest this year because the Derby and Preakness winners weren't going, but I still think it will be quite a race and what a great summer and fall we're going to see once some of these colts get a needed rest.

Tim - I agree with Dublin's lack of luck and his heart has carried him through. He's kept on trying. He's going to back to winning at some point.

I saw the bad break from a terrible post position and then how much ground he lost. My heart sank for him. I couldn't believe it when I saw him swinging out and running hard and how much ground he made up from last place! Well, actually I could, he has done it all year.

I have liked Dublin since last year. The bad luck he has had all this year has been driving me crazy. I hope he gets a chance in the Belmont. I think Dublin is far more talented than he is given credit for. He always tries so hard.

At this point in time, however, I'm back with Stately Victor, Ice Box, First Dude and Fly Down. The fifth is a sentimental choice since I thinks he's still a bit immature and tends to run green. But having been devoted to Rock Hard Ten, I have to consider New Madrid. Things could change in the next 3 weeks...but that's who I like so far. 12f is a long way to go...so is 3 weeks. So far in the TC, I'm batting .666. This could be a devilishly wicked race.

Tim G....never any question about Dublin's heart...just his maturity. He's a very big rascal. I like feistiness in a colt, but Dublin, 85ina50, and New Madrid all tend to take the scenic route instead of a straight line in a race. Maybe they overdid the Guinness...or mixed loco weed in the hay. Some horses don't really mature until 4, like RH10 and Cigar.

Yep, Dublin has heart and it looks like he'll be a good one. Same with Jackson, and Lucky. Probably Yawanna too.

Zookeeper

I'm going on sabbatical. Whenever I do I come back and win some good ones. I need a betting break. Nothing wrong with Trifectas and they're a lot easier to hit than supers. Did you see that 76k?

Slew-First Dude is something else and he's going to The Belmont. I'm the same as you. I want to see a Triple Crown before I bite the dust. I thought we had one until Esky got hurt. What a disappointment that was. Now I have to eat right for another year at least.

Despite what Jason says, the fence was 10ft closer to the gate than it is at CD.

Someone said he doesn't have heart? Anyone question that heart now? I guess before the Derby Wayne could have made the biggest equipment change of all but just too nice of a horse who should come into his own.

Look how many lengths he made up on a hot pace. Everyone keeps talking about Lucky's bad luck, I'd say Dublin has had just as bad or worse luck.

I have these blogs to thank for it. The diverse comments made me realize that just about every horse in the Preakness was worth a long look. That's what made me hit the ALL button for 3rd. I really believed that the two first finishers would be SS & L@L and that the 3rd spot was wide open. My normal bet would have been for those two plus a couple of others in a Tri Box. If not for Jason, I would not have included FD in the equation and would have come up empty AGAIN.

As difficult as the Tri is to hit the Super is even harder to decipher without the ALL button. Yawanna Twist was as big a surprise (to me) coming in 4th as First Dude was hanging in for 2nd. I am not willing to bet as much money as it would have taken for me to hit the Super. The $40. I invested in the Tri was reasonable enough for me to place the bet. The reward was far more than I expected.

Now let's see if I can repeat this in the Belmont!!! At this point I would venture to say that my chances are SLIM to NONE.

The worm has turned. It's going to be a good Belmont. Now back to reality. Beaver had an Uncle Billy that told tall tales and Beaver's favorite teddy bear was named Billy. That's true isn't it children. Yes, Miss Landers. I really liked First Dude, but also had an obsession with Pleasant Prince. I really liked Lucky and not Super but then started liking Super more. I'm a Setsuko fan but I'm not going to think it's his destiny to win The Belmont like I did with Pleasant Prince in THe Preakness. Open mind all the way to the post parade. Close but no cigar in The Preakness. I should have paid closer attention to Jackson Bend's class, and waited for the post parade. The Derby threw me off because I couldn't even get my final bets in because they had too much traffic. Back to basics. Study the pps, see the horses and make my bets. This was a good race to key a few on top with all in 3rd like Zookeeper did. Don't think it can't happen again Zookeeper. You might be starting a hot streak. I hit 3 Tri's like that last year in a month. Good luck to all in The Belmont and don't forget to keep Steve happy (and all of us ) with 50's TV comments. Baby, you're the greatest.

Looking forward to your next article. Lucky 7. And 7-11. You were right about Dude. That is one impressive looking animal, and can run like the wind. Jackson Bend is going to win some races. A lot of class. Time to give him a break and regroup.

Congrats !!!!! That's a nice win. We were almost twins again. It's just that I wasn't smart enough to do an all for third. Jackson Bend has a ton of class. He looked good pre-race so I already felt bad leaving him out. Best looking pre-race was First Dude, Yawanna Twist, Super Saver, Jackson Bend, Paddy O Prado. I assume Dublin is going to Belmont. Paddy could. First Dude should. I doubt if anyone else will. The way Super looked pre-race I thought he'd be in there, in the top three. Put some money away for SA !!!!! There's nothing like live !!!! Good job. I'll be playing Belmont since I got some money back from the exacta. Otherwise I was going to take a break. This time I'm not betting ahead of time. I've been losing with blind bets and winning when I see the horses. Maybe I'll see a Da Tara. (I hope Setsuko looks like Da Tara did) Congratulations Zookeeper Dude.

What a surprise when I saw that he came in 5th. I think he did very well, considering the "exit stage right" he attempted when the gates opened.

Dr Drunkinbum,

Sorry your Tri didn't pan out. I've been there myself so many times, I know how that feels. I would never have put First Dude in the 2nd spot if Jason hadn't been so confident about him. Boy! Am I glad I listened. It took me a few seconds after the race to realize that I had won like never before and probably never again.

Slew, with your talking about stock cars I came up with another name for Super Saver's half brother. Wonder if they will allow you to enter two names?

I know, that's what I said-they don't like our names. They should let us do another entry if they're going to extend it. Jackson Bend, a horse I was worried about beat me out of the Trifecta. My Tri and ex was super saver, lucky, Dude, PP, and Yawanna Twist. Two stunk, three ran good. Got the ex but really wanted that Trifecta. I still lost because I had some other bets on PP. Jackson was tough. I thought Twist would get him. By the time I realized that First Dude was the pick it was too late. I had already put too much on PP. That Dude is something else and should go to Belmont. Super looked really good pre race. No excuses. Lucky showed his class. With Gomez he would have been in trouble. Garcia is Bafferts go to from now on.
