John Sherriffs would be at the top of that list along with Art and Alan Sherman and Charles LoPresti. Most importantly, I would want someone who always puts the horse first; a horseman who is also a trainer. I know there are other trainers who fit that profile as well.

Thanks. I'm a long ways from rooting for anyone yet but it looks like my Derby interest has just started. Will probably wait until after the BC to start a watch list.

I think I had a touch of the fever but am fighting it off for now. I won't be able to beat it but should be able to delay the onset of the serious side effects for awhile. That's interesting info you gave on the ped. Thanks.

Paula

It would be tough to pick a trainer. I'd have to give it some serious thought and have a good heart to heart with whoever I chose. It wouldn't be an easy decision. Thank you.

With this lovely real life story, i felt like i was reading Cinderella all over again, but the carriage never turned back to a pumpkin. Abby Adsit has made the big time, in my favorite place of all, Saratoga. Thank you Steve,Abby, Daddy and family. This is what dreams are made of and so refreshing to know Abby is well on her way to many more wins. The horse/mare she is riding is beautiful. The best of everything is sent your way Abby. You are your daddy's girl. Special, just really special as only Steve could write it.

Abby has a bright future ahead of her and she will hopefully someday get to smell the roses up close.

Dr D

Being a Dr. you know fever can be treated, unless of course it is Derby fever. Fortunately all that get it are miraculously cured by about 7:00PM on the first Saturday in May.

Since you asked for opinions, I'll bite.

After last years Derby, we were reminded that mixing genes is not quite as simple as mixing nickel and chromite to get chrome. What kind of genetics will 2015's Derby winner have is a question that begs to be pondered.

I do find it very interesting that Lucky Player is inbred 5Sx5D to Smartaire, the dam of the fine racehorse Smarten [who was inbred 5Sx6D to *Mother-In-Law (GB)] she a precocious juvenile winner who produced the fine British stayer, *Son-In-Law, himself a tremendous influence for class and stamina. Through his daughter *Aleo the multiple times American champion and Horse of the Year Round Table was produced. Some irony going here from multiple angles no less, especially since we saw Buckpasser's champion daughter Numbered Account appear twice in California Chrome's pedigree.

Is this dam inbreeding a secret genetic recipe?

Another remarkable tale of fate and belief in one-self and mostly in the passion that is the source of ones success let alone their well-being and the sacrifices they are willing to make to make-it. How wonderful to hear that this young lady is able to express herself in such a manner with respect and trust for those that she has come to know and the ones that have reared her and those that are closest to her including each and everyone of her horses. It is as "rare" as the "scenic background" and as honest as the soul - as there are so many parts of racing that do not seem to be able to find theirs.......

"it is quality and not quantity" that makes for the better as it builds the stamina for success that supports the spirit of a single individual -or a horse - that makes a difference be on the track or off...

as you continue to do ~ how special it is.......

I like Lucky Players pedigree. Lookin At Lucky Preekness et al. Grand Dads were Storm Cat and Smart Strike. Royal all the way around. It takes knowledge and experience but you have to have the natural ability and instincts. No offense to Todd Pletcher who is an excellent trainer but you can only teach others so much, you can't pass on your greatness so I hope that Abby never has a barn as big as Pletcher's. You have to be personally involved with each horse to have a great stable. Winning is the goal but a horse's welfare and happiness is really what it's all about, and the two can go hand in hand or hoof in hoof if you prefer, or hand in hoof. Good luck to Abby, she sure does look and sound like a shining star. Reunions are for later on in life, pursuing greatness through what you love is for now. I like that.

I have followed Abby's success for awhile now since she was profiled by our alma mater, Union College. While I graduated many years ahead of her, when you hear about someone from such a small school in the limelight like this, you pay attention. Steve summed it up perfectly- Abby has achieved what so many little girls dream about! I was the same horse crazy kid, but other sports and school kept me out of horses in a serious way until I was an adult- happy to say I've achieved the horsey dream on a much smaller scale as a horse owner and therapeutic riding instructor. Although...I still do have dreams of owning a racehorse someday...looks like I know who to call up when I need a trainer. Seriously, many congratulations to Abby and can't wait to continue to watch her promising career unfold!
