In Curlin's case he was back to his brilliant best in only his second start after the gruelling Triple Crown, the Jockey Club Gold Cup, where he closed furiously to tag the bang-in-form older horse Lawyer Ron. I think that the same will occur for California Chrome, except that his second start will be in the Breeder's Cup Classic. Lets face it, after the triple crown trail and a three months recuperative break it shouldn't take a whole lot for these fit equine athletes to regain their top conditioning. The history of Curlin's JCGC performance suggests that it can be done in two starts (althoug Curlin won his BCC on his third start).&lt;/p&gt;
