Then, the fun really began in the post parade when Royal Card reared, dumped her rider, and ran off. The outrider made a nice grab to stop her after only one furlong and she stayed in the race....

The other Smarty Jones was Hip #35, a bay colt by Alaska Queen, a Time for a Change mare. Alaska Queen is the dam of 4 winners including stakes winners Keats and Fairbanks who finished 2nd in the Gulfstream Park Handicap (gr. II) earlier this year. Hip #35 worked a quarter in :21.4....

Smart Sugar, a chestnut Smarty Jones filly out of the Deputy Minister mare, Ashraaf, worked 2 furlongs at Hollywood Park recording a time of :26.20. Ashraaf earned $137,480 and won as a 2-year old. She has had one previous foal, Just Regal, who finished 11th in her first and only start on February 23, 2008 at Gulfstream....
