Maiden Special Weight
Post Time: 2:15 PM; TVG
||Cowboy at Heart|
First 2-year old race to be featured in this blog is the 3rd Race on opening day at Keeneland (April 4th). None of our spotlight stallions have offspring in this race, but there is one first-crop sire represented, as Ocean Terrace is the sire of Cowboy at Heart (Ocean Terrace - Vic's Nostalgia by Nostalgia's Star). Ocean Terrace was a grade III winner of $160,400. He also was a winner in his 2-year old debut. Cowboy at Heart's dam earned $101,308. However, her first win did not come until she was 4. She has produced one winner.
The top seller from this group was Merkel (Forest Wildcat - Lady Blockbuster by Silent Screen) who brought $150,000 as a yearling. Lady Blockbuster was a stakes-winner who earned $83,854. She has produced 5 winners including 2 stakes winners, none of which won as 2-year olds. Her stakes winners include Mellow Fellow who won or placed in 6 graded stakes and earned $553,916. However, he did not start until age 3.
Another with good sale statistics is Kickapoo (Indian Charlie - Rainbow's End by Siphon (BRZ) who sold for $75,000 as a yearling. His dam won $9,166. Kickapoo is her first foal.
Notonthesamepage (Catienus - Blue Holiday by Cure the Blues) is out of a dam who earned $303,170, but did not race until she was 3. She has had one offspring to race, Destiny's Pet, who has yet to reach the winner's circle. However, she did start as a 2-year old.
Yo Joe (Wertaloona - Yoshi Go by Rivergo) is by the Oklahoma sire, Wertaloona who currently has 6 named 2-year olds. His dam was unraced, but she produced 2 winners including the stakes-placed Yo Fanci who earned $88,712. Yo Fanci did not race as a 2-year old, but Yoshi Go's other winner won as a 2-year old. (Yoshi Go has 4 foals, all by Wertaloona. They are called, Yo Fanci, Yo Little Mama, Yo Ceeya, and Yo Joe).
