Our first Saarland starter, Katolak Cowboy (colt; Saarland - Tide Cat by Storm Cat) will take to the track at Woobine. Saarland won 2 out of 5 starts as a 2-year old, winning the Remsen (gr. II) in November of that year. Katolak Cowboy's dam, Tide Cat, was unraced and she has produced one winner who earned $43,143 and finished 5th in one 2-year old start. Tide Cat is a half-sister to Ide winner of the Southwest (gr. III) and Rebel (gr. III) stakes. Ide was a very good 2-year old, earning $243,780 that season including wins in the Iroquois (gr. III) and Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes (gr. III).
5 other first-year stallions are represented in this race, Roar of the Tiger (Can'tstopthiscat), Alke (Dublin Lane), Cuvee (Cuvee Star), Roaring Fever (Tin Pan Alley Cat), and Gimmeawink (Player's List).
Cuvee Star (colt; Cuvee - Star Legend by Stalwart) is out of a stakes-placed mare who earned $120,638. She was 1 for 2 as a 2-year old. Cuvee earned $360,704 during his 2-year old season, broke his maiden in his first start, and won or placed in 4 stakes that year. His victories included the Kentucky Breeders' Cup Stakes (gr. III), the Saratoga Special (gr. II), and the Futurity (gr. I). Cuvee has had a handful of runners, no winners yet, but several placings.
The dam of Dublin Lane (colt; Alke - John's Love by Chief's Crown) earned $86,417 and finished 4th in one start as a 2-year old. She has produced 2 winners, one of which won his 2-year old debut. In three starts as a 2-year old, Alke had 1 win and 2 seconds. The latter
included a runner-up finish in the Iroquois Stakes (gr. III). Alke is the sire of Broadway Al who finished 3rd in our Tiger Rules race.
Tin Pan Alley Cat (colt; Roaring Fever - Rose City Music by Mt. Livermore) is a half-brother to 4 winners including 2-year old winner Fabulous Rose. Roaring Fever was a stakes winner who earned $219,655. As a 2-year old, he started 4 times, recording a first and a second. The second-place finish came in the Cowdin Stakes (gr. III). Roaring Fever is also a full-brother to Raging Fever a millionaire who earned $598,500 during her 2-year old season. That season included wins in the Adirondack (gr. II), Matron (gr. I), and Frizette (gr. I). Another full-sibling to Roaring Fever is the grade III winner and sire Stormin Fever. Tin Pan Alley Cat appears to be Roaring Fever's first starter.
