Medaglia d'Onore (colt; Medaglia d'Oro - Always Ready by Dixieland Band), which I believe means something like "medal of honor" (if someone has a better translation, please chime in), becomes the second starter for Medaglia d'Oro. Medaglia d'Onore's dam, Always Ready, was a winner who earned $29,294.  None of her offspring have raced.  However, Always Ready is a half-sister to More Than Ready, millionaire and grade I winner.  More Than Ready won 5 out of 7 starts as a 2-year old (and finished 3rd in another start) including victories in the Tremont (gr. III), and Sanford (gr. II).  More Than Ready also broke his maiden in his first start, in a 4.5 furlong race at Keeneland in April. Medaglia d'Onore sold for $40,000 as a yearling.

Two other first-crop sires are represented in this race, Chapel Royal is the sire of both Chapel Run (Chapel Royal - Lost Judgement by Judge Smells) and Meetmeatthechapel (Chapel Royal - Run Kate Run by Cherokee Run). Chapel Royal's first winner scored on April 19 at Keeneland. Chapel Run, who sold for $60,000 as a yearling, is out a stakes winning dam who earned $265,939 and won as a 2-year old. Selling for $50,000 as a weanling, Meetmeatthechapel is the first foal out of an unraced dam.  One of his dam's siblings won as a 2-year old.

First-year sire Candy Ride is the sire of Fradiablo (Candy Ride (ARG) - Kalemaat (GB) by Unfuwain). Fradiablo sold for $115,000 as a yearling. Fradiablo is a half-brother to the stakes winner All for Fashion who was 1 for 1 as a 2-year old.

The overall sale leader from this race is Mr Mistoffelees (Storm Cat - Country Romance by Saint Ballado) who sold for $300,000 as a yearling and $1.5 million as a 2-year old. His dam was a stakes winner who earned $157,230 but who didn't start as a 2-year old. However, she is a half-sister to the graded stakes winner Katz Me If You Can who earned $410,947 including 2nd place in the Sorority Stakes (gr. III) as a 2-year old.

Tripp to Hedo (Trippi - Load Up by Dove Hunt) is a half-brother to the stakes winner St. Joe who earned $54,130 as a 2-year old including 3rd in the Iroquois (gr. III).  St. Joe most recently finished 9th in the Coolmore Lexington at Keeneland.

Summer's Empire (Empire Maker - Summer Mis by Summer Squall) is the first foal out of the grade III stakes winner, Summer Mis. Summer Mis earned $542,662 in her career and won or placed in 8 stakes including 2nd in the Illinois Breeder's Debutante Stakes as a 2-year old.

One horse in the field has previous experience, Regardlessofoutcome (Bring the Heat - Bridget Says by Patton) finished 3rd in a 2 furlong race at Santa Anita on April 4th. He is the first foal out of a dam who earned $100,095 and won as a 2-year old.
