Yo Joe gets the Cowboy

It was our old friend Yo Joe who took the big prize in this one.  He scampered out of the gate and didn't look back.  The filly, Can'tstopthiscat, gave chase, but she couldn't gain.  In fact, she was all out to hold off our boy, Katolak Cowboy, who was just a head behind.  A very encouraging performance and learning experience (I believe this is the first of our starters to hit the board) for a horse who should appreciate more distance.  The top-seller, Bear Encounter, took the early action at the windows and ran evenly to end up 5th. This should have been an easy trifecta for MaidenWatch readers, the top choice over the 2nd choice over Katolak Cowboy for $108.20. No, I didn't have it.

Worthy of comment is the progeny record of Yo Joe's sire, Wertaloona. Wertaloona has 6 named 2-year olds, 2 have raced and both are winners, and they have earned a total of $85,245. Overall, in 8 crops of racing age, he's had 41 foals, 30 starters and 24 winners.

In first-crop sire news, yesterday saw the first winner for Cuvee as his son, Border Cuvee, was a winner at Lone Star Park.

i was very excited to see Yo Joe win.  He's a cool dude.  We had him in Houston.  I did not gallop him then, but I have been riding him a little bit at Woodbine. He looked good this morning walking the shedrow after his explosive win!

alex - great to hear some inside information about Yo Joe.  I have to say that I was attracted to him first because of his name - I have a friend named Joe and am always on the lookout for Joe horses (two of our favorites in the past were Joe Who and Professor Joe).

the problem now is where to run him.  I galloped him a few days ago and he was leaping in the air he was so fresh!
