Himynameissarah and I'm Quite the Lady for Bri N Savannah


Busy day for Maiden Watch on Belmont Stakes Saturday, as three fillies debut, one by Congaree (Bri N Savannah), one by Saarland (Himynameissarah), and one by Pleasantly Perfect (Quite the Lady). Let's look at them in post time order.

First up is Bri N Savannah (Congaree - Walkerton by Copelan) who will go 4.5 furlongs on the Woodbine Polytrack. Bri N Savannah is a half-sister to 6 winners including Caleb Pond who finished 3rd in the Tremont Stakes as a 2-year old and Spy Hill who finished 3rd in the Victoria Stakes as a 2-year old.

The most experienced horse in the race is Can'tstopthiscat (Roar of the Tiger - Thunder by Night by Thunder Gulch) who has run 4 times, finishing 3rd twice and 2nd twice. Can'tstopthiscat is familiar to Maiden Watch readers, as she has twice face Katolak Cowboy, finiishing 3rd on April 20 and 2nd on May 9. Can'tstopthiscat is by first-year sire, Roar of the Tiger who is a full-brother to Giant's Causeway. Roar of the Tiger has had 3 winners from 8 starters. Can'tstopthiscat's dam is a half-sister to grade III stakes winner, Quick Blue.

The only other experienced runners in the race are Faithful One (Chapel Royal - She's the One by Northern Flagship) and Mayfield Road (Yonaguska - Dancing All Night by Nijinsky II) who met on May 17 in a 4.5 furlong race at Woodbine, finishing 2nd and 7th respectively. Faithful One, who sold for $39,000 as a weanling, is by first-year sire, Chapel Royal. Chapel Royal has had 14 starters and 3 winners so far. Faithful One is a half-sister to 3 winners including 1 2-year old winner. Mayfield Road is out of Dancing All Night who earned $185,420 in a career that included victory in the Long Island Handicap (gr. II). Dancing All Night is the dam of 3 winners and a full-sister to grade I winner, Dancing Spree and a half-sister to grade I winners, Fantastic Find and Furlough.

Fairlight (Hold That Tiger - Petite Diablo by Silver Deputy) sold for $68,000 as a yearling. She is the first foal out of a mare who earned $144,133.

Juliet's Spirit (Exchange Rate - Juliet's Way by Farma Way) is a half-sister to stakes winner, Gleaming Elegance who was a debut winner at 2 and a full-sister to Madonna Mia who was twice stakes-placed as a 2-year old.

The dam of Red Sox Fox (Foxtrail - Princess Nita by Spectacular Bid) has produced 5 winners.

Selling for $50,000 as a yearling was Georgia Song (Songandaprayer - Mia Bird Too by Proud Birdie) whose dam, Mia Bird Too, was a stakes winner who earned $267,815. Mia Bird Too has produced three winners, including a full-sister to Georgia Song.

At Canterbury Park, Himynameissarah (Saarland - Pacific Island by Grand Slam) debuts in a 3.5 furlong race. Himynamissarah is the first foal out of mare who won $126,796 in a career that included 2 2-year old victories. 

Two experienced horses in the race, Classic Bound (Boundless - Classic Nix by Bold Nix) finished 6th in a 3.5 furlong race at Canterbury on May 23. Classic Bound's dam, Classic Nix, was a stakes-winner who earned $79,239. Classic Bound is her first foal. Bridal Essence (Essence of Dubai - Bridal Ballad by Opening Verse) finished 5th at 4.5 furlongs at Turf Paradise. Bridal Essence is out of a winning mare who is a half-sister to 10 winners.

Payton's Drama (Dramatic Copy - Pilgrim Miss by Jacksonport) is the first-starter for her sire, Dramatic Copy who earned $31,520 all his 2-year old season. Payton's Drama is out of a mare who earned $114,543.

Another first-year sire represented in this race is Eavesdropper, whose first starter is Copper Sunrise (Eavesdropper - Near Silver by Lac Ouimet). Eavesdropper was a stakes winner who earned $167,794. He is also a half-brother to A. P. Indy and Summer Squall. Copper Sunrise's dam was a stakes winner who earned $92,688. Her dam was a group I winner in Chile, she also finished 2nd in the Las Cienegas (gr. III). Quite the Lady is a half-sister to 2 winners.

Star of War (Cuvee - Miss Awesome by Awesome Again) has finished 4th twice, most recently on May 22 at Churchill Downs, a race that also featured Rachel Alexandra. Star of War is by first-year sire, Cuvee who has had 10 starters and 1 winner. Star of War's dam, Miss Awesome, was a 2-year old winner who earned $50,079 in her career. She has produced one winner.

Hank the Billymax (colt; Medaglia d'Oro - Twining Star by Twining) worked 3 furlongs at Churchill Downs recording a time of :37.40. Hank the Billymax, who sold for $175,000 as a weanling, is out of a mare who earned $53,042 and who finished 3rd in the Tempted (gr. III) as a 2-year old.

Pleasantly Perfect Fan - I don't have any info on Rapid Redux, but since his stablemate won the race, I think it's probable that they only intended on running one. The last time they were both entered, Atomic Rain was scratched (that was Rapid Redux' 2nd place debut).
