Stone Success

Both S. S. Stone and Speight the Halo broke well and sat right behind the leaders, Del Conte and Say it Again. Speight the Halo, benefiting from his outside post, cruised to the front in the stretch. On the other hand, S. S. Stone was stuck amongst horses. But, he showed a lot of tenacity and fought his way through the crowd to join Speight the Halo. The two Maiden Watch horses battled well clear of the rest of the pack, until S. S. Stone surged forward past the tiring Speight the Halo to become the first winner for Birdstone. Street Hero, who was off slow and was near the back for most of the race, closed well to pick up third.

I hope that I wasn't the only one who had the Maiden Watch exacta which paid $102.70 for a dollar.

GO BIRDSTONE.I HOPE THAT HE HAS A LOT MORE MAIDEN WINNERS AT THESE PRICES :)

BUDREAU11 30 Jun 2008 9:28 AM

Am I mistaken or has Birdstone beaten Smarty Jones to the winners circle with his first crop winner?  I don't remember seeing any blurb about Smarty getting his first winner as yet - let me know if I'm wrong!

If I'm not - just another surprise from the "Little Man" who ran big!

Didn't have the exacta, but happy never the less on Birdstone and his first crop winner!!!  May he have many more winning birdies :-)

UGH! Smarty better get his butt moving on the first crop sires board......little booger! Then again Point Given hasn't lived up to my expectations, the only one that has is Empire Maker, c'mon Smarty, redeem ur loss on Birdstone, don't let him run by u again!

EmpireGiven21 30 Jun 2008 10:15 PM

Maybe Smarty Jones is not as good a sire as he was a racehorse, just like Go For Gin.

It's a little too early to be judging Smarty's success as a sire. He's only had two runners. Let's give him at least until the end of the year!

I was so happy to see SS win for Birdstone!! I hope this is just the beginning of a long list of winners for the Bird. Love him. Loved him at the Belmont. Thanks for listing his babies, everytime I see one I put it on my virtual stable.
