Pattie is the Singing Heir

  • Comments

It was starting to get a little scary, as Singing Rose (Congaree), Heir to the Stone (Birdstone), and Passum Pattie (Peace Rules) rolled off three straight wins for Maiden Watch. Reality returned with thirds for Texas Birdstone (Birdstone) and King Congo (Congaree), but overall it was a good day for our first-year stallions. Only one entry for July 11, Audible (Congaree) who is a main track only runner at Belmont. Anyone know how to do a rain dance?

Rose Sings over Karma

Naturally Bold went to the lead in this one, closely followed by Singing Rose who finally ran the leader down in the stretch. She then had to hold off the oncoming C Karma who came wide. Singing Rose dug in and prevailed, scoring a well-earned victory to become the 4th winner for Congaree.

The Heir Apparent

Heir to the Stone came out of the gate like a rocket, getting lengths on the field immediately. The even-money favorite, Smokin Hero, gave chase, but he never got within a length of the leader. Heir to the Stone drew away in the stretch to win by more than 5. A very impressive debut for Birdstone's second winner..

Pattie Not Playing Passum

Passum Pattie came out of the gate about 3rd or 4th, but she quickly made the lead pursued by Super Sweet Tea. That one tired and Passum Pattie began to draw off.  She did get a little tired in the stretch, but she was well clear of Stay in Canada who was best of the rest. Passum Pattie is the fifth winner for Peace Rules.

Texas Stone Can't Catch Danger

Texas Birdstone was bumped on both sides at the start, but was not discouraged and made his way up to the middle of the pack. Meanwhile, up front, Tres Dangereux was having things his own way, while Nun Like Me applied token pressure. Texas Birdstone went way wide on the turn, but put in a bid and I began to believe that the Maiden Watch winning ways would continue. But, Texas Birdstone tired a bit and could not sustain his bid, as Mercury Express closed well to take 2nd. Still, a promising debut for Texas Birdstone who overcame trouble and beat 9 horses.

A Knight Conquers the King

Inhoc Signo Vinces came out running, was in the clear after only a quarter, and then continued to increase his lead. Fast Tacticts came from off the pace and gained ground, but was no threat to the winner. King Congo turned in an even performance, running in third virtually the whole race.

Audible (Congaree - Miss Marcia by Mr. Greeley) is a main track only entry in this one, but I thought that the race was interesting to look at whether Audible gets in or not. All horses are unraced and there a number with impressive sales credentials. Audible, who sold for $300,000 as a yearling, is out of a mare who earned $95,925, including a third place finish in the Lake Placid (gr. IIT). Audible is a half-brother to one winner.

Fellow main track only entry Precursor (A. P. Indy - Sophorific (IRE) by Danehill) sold for $500,000 as a 2-year old. He is a full-brother to Happiness to You who was a 2-year old winner and who has earned $78,874. Precursor and Happiness to You are out of a mare who was stakes-placed as a 2-year old.

Bittel Road (Stormy Atlantic - Sultry Sal by Sultry Song) was a $340,000 yearling. Bittel Road is the 2nd foal out of the 2-year old winning mare, Sultry Sal, who is full-sister to grade III stakes winner Top Notch Lady. As a 2-year old, Top Notch Lady won 3 races including the Glorious Song stakes and finished 2nd in the Natalma (CAN-III) and the Mazarine (CAN-III).

Also selling for 6 figures as a yearling was Sello (Mr. Greeley - Madame Red by Forest Wildcat), who brought a final bid of $150,000. Sello is out of the stakes winning mare, Madame Red, who earned $323,001 and was a 2-year old winner. Madame Red is the dam of 2 winners, both of which won as 2-year olds, including En Rouge a full-sister to Sello.

Lime Rickey (Lemon Drop Kid - Kootenai by Deputy Minister) sold for $70,000 as a yearling and is the first foal out of the placed mare, Kootenai. Kootenai is a half-sister to 7 winners including Placerville, group II winner on the turf.

Selling for $60,000 as a yearling was Cairiene (Proud Citizen - Needlepoint by Dixieland Band). Cairiene is a half-brother to 3 winners including 2 that won on the turf.

Invisible Star (Invisible Ink - She Is Here by Kris S.) is a half-brother to 2 winners including Valentine Light who was a 2-year old winner and was stakes-placed as a 3-year old. Valentine Light earned $111,105 in her career.

Grand Morning (Western Expression - I Met Somebody by Compliance) is the first foal out of a mare who won as a 2-year old, as well as on the turf, and earned $205,100 overall.

Southern Sandra, the dam of Musca (Orientate - Southern Sandra by Dixie Brass), was a stakes winner who earned $165,917 and also won as a 2-year old. Southern Sandra has produced the winner Dixie Marrone who won both on dirt and turf and who has earned $118,941 through 2008.

News and Notes

Kinsella (Mr. Greeley - Win My Heart by King of Kings (IRE)) who sold for $2.2 million as a yearling is in training with Todd Pletcher, and hopefully will race before the end of the year.
