Just Da Bear Facts

Three scratches left this one as a field of four, but that didn't mean that there wasn't plenty of action. Who U Like set the early pace, with Falling Knife and Da Bear Facts (Congaree) stalking. Falling Knife went up to join Who U Like, but Da Bear Facts came up on the turn. Da Bear Facts and Falling Knife battled to the wire, but Da Bear Facts prevailed to become Congaree's 7th winner.

Koonunga Hill Tells a Bedtime Story

This one was pretty much a match race, as Koonunga Hill and Panther Strike went after the lead and battled throughout. At the end, it was Koonunga Hill whose nose was in front. Actually, Koonunga Hill never let Panther Strike get in front, but Panther Strike never stopped trying. Bedtime Story (Pleasantly Perfect) came running wide, but settled for 5th. She did run evenly at the end. Lady Shakespeare and Baytree were scratched.

Time Sails Over Noble Rule

Tadisha ducked in at the start and was pretty much eliminated, the dangers of being a first-timer in the one hole. Favored Sailing Time went right to the lead, pursued by Candy Jak. That one put up a good fight for awhile, but there was no gaining on the leader who won by 4. Noble Rule (Peace Rules) was outrun early and loped along near the back. But, no one was making up ground in this one. I just checked the chart, no horse changed positions after the quarter pole.

Heavenly Vision Overtakes Smarty Marty

Smarty Marty (Smarty Jones) got a good start and secured a rail spot on the lead. She was closely pursued, however, by Proclaim and Heavenly Vision. That pair was battling for the lead by the half, but Smarty Marty was hanging tough. However, she tired in the stretch and faded to last. Still, it was not a bad effort. Shine Softly, the daughter of Soaring Softly, closed well to pick up third. I think Nan should go back to the turf, she was in the mix early, but ended up 9th. Cheering and Sara Louise were scratched.

Just Like Biscuit Rules Presidente d'Oro

Presidente d'Oro (Medaglia d'Oro) was squeezed at the start and lost all chance, at one point he was 6 lengths behind the next horse. But, he did manage to pass a few late and should improve next time out. Sunshine Rambler set the early pace followed by My Little Man Tate, but both of these tired in the stretch. Rockin' Joe hit the lead in the stretch, but he could not hold off the relentless closing of Just Like Biscuit. I must say that I was happy to see Just Like Biscuit get his maiden victory in his 8th try. He has run in so many of our Maiden Watch races, that he feels like an old friend. Also nice for Bonnie Castaneda who doesn't get to ride many decent horses. And for those who care about such things, Just Like Biscuit races without lasix.

Anyone hear of how a Speightstown 2yo is doing by the name of Hornung?  I saw he worked at Saratoga...but haven't seen much else.  Any info would be appreciated!

25 Aug 2008 11:58 AM

Poor Smarty Marty! I do wish she would have won...

I'm a Smarty Jones fan, so it's always good to see new names of hs foals...like Be Smart..never heard of that one before...has he ran in any races yet?

And Belle Jour...I just heard about her a few days ago. Her name is really pretty:)

But yay for the Mediglia d'Oro filly, C.S. Silk...she ran a good 5 furlongs if you ask me...
