The Results are In - August 31

Nineteen horses in 14 races and not a single scratch. In fact, Mullins Beach (Speightstown) got in off the AE list. The results are below, beginning with the two stakes races (Spinaway and Sapling), then today's winners, and then the rest in chronological order.

Mani Bhavan Spins Away

This one was pretty much over when no one went with Mani Bhavan early. Jardin made it closer late, but she was no threat to the winner. I am not sure how much farther Mani Bhavan can go, however, as she seemed to be tiring late and Storm Boot is not known for stamina. Collegiate (Saarland) ran evenly to take third, becoming the first stakes-placed performer for her sire.

Mine All Mine scratched out of the Spinaway to go in the Sorority Stakes at Monmouth. She finished 6th in that one after breaking slowly and chasing the early pacesetter. She really seems to be a need the lead type of runner. Still, I would have liked to have seen her in the Spinaway.

Silencing the Officer with Valor

Saratoga Storm held the early lead, but he was soon passed by Officer Ipod who took over after a half a mile. He was helpless, however, to stop the closing rush of Silent Valor who closed on the outside to take the Sapling. Dueling Alex (Medaglia d'Oro) ran evenly to take 4th, no apparent excuses this time out.

Breakwithtradition Soars Over Barrichello

The horses broke in a pack, but B'cause B'cause soon emerged with the lead. Barrichello (Speightstown) was in a good position in 2nd, but it was Breakwithtradition (Birdstone) who swept to the lead and pulled away to become Birdstone's 5th winner. Barrichello got past B'cause B'cause to complete the Maiden Watch exacta.

Mullins Beach Draws In and Draws Off

Shizuka, Divine Destiny, and Triple Flip mixed it up early, while Mullins Beach (Speightstown) waited near the back of the pack. She swung outside and inhaled the field, hitting the front by the stretch. Lucky thing she got in off the AE list. Our other runner, Tbilisi (Birdstone), raced off the pace, closed a bit, but then flatted out.

Union City Over Livin Lovin

Three Maiden Watch horses in this one, She's A Wow (Speightstown), Prosecca (Speightstown), and Livin Lovin (Birdstone), but it was Union City who jumped out of the gate first. Livin Lovin came out about fourth, but soon moved up to the second spot. She couldn't gain any on the leader, but she was clear of the pack. Prosecca faded a bit after being part of the early pace and She's A Wow ran mid-pack throughout. They finished 5th and 6th respectively.

It's Easy for Wardelle (at 39-1)

Fishers Mill had the early lead, but he faded in the stretch. Power Express took over at that point, but she couldn't hold off Gossip Gil or Wardelle who was going best. Wardelle scored at 39-1, becoming the 4th winner for Toccet. Loving Roe is Easy (Peace Rules) was in tight at the start and didn't have much impact after that.

Sweet Texas is a Star Over the Canary

P. J.'s Canary (Birdstone) broke on top in the center of the track, but assumed a stalking position outside of Hazel Grove. These two set some slow fractions, but they left the rail open and Sweet Texas Star came through inside and Before Her Time came rolling. Hazel Grove fell back, but P.J.'s Canary stayed up there. However, she faltered late and was overtaken for third.

Bambolina Overtakes River Fancy

Bambolina broke on top, but then dropped back and let Debbie H and River Fancy (Congaree) battle up front while saving ground on the rail. She came outside for the drive and got by a stubborn Debbie H. River Fancy just got nipped at the finish for third by her fast closing entry mate, There Are Rainbows. Stll River Fancy made a good run and hopefully will get another turf try. River Fancy's run was even more impressive when I read the chart and saw that she hit the side of the gate at the start.

Neither of our horses made much of an impact in this one, although Crema d'Oro (Medaglia d'Oro) was near the pace before tiring to 7th. Pearl of Valor (Medaglia d'Oro) finished 9th.

Dave Gets Revenge at 37-1

Scarbourough Fair scampered to a clear lead early, but quit in the stretch. Oro Blanco was the first to go by, along with Silar Rules. Pamona Ball (Pleasantly Perfect) started a move on the outside, but she couldn't sustain it. A bigger move was made by Dave's Revenge who did sustain her bid to sweep by everyone on the outside in a move reminiscent of her sire, The Cliff's Edge. Dave's Revenge is the fifth winner for her sire.
