Lippy Congas To Gold

Conga Gets the Gold

Creme de Cuvee rushed to the front and established a clear lead. Conga Gold (Congaree) was out ok, in about 3rd or 4th. She started moving up on the turn, and then sprinted by the leaders. She pulled away to win by a good five lengths. R B Mountain Music also closed well to pick up the place spot. Miquelina weakened to third. Conga Gold is not the prettiest mover, but she got the job done. She must have impressed someone in the morning, because two trainers put in claims. She is now going to the barn of Ralph Nicks. Note the big show payoffs that resulted when even-money choice, Creme de Cuvee, finished 6th.

It's No Wonder, Lippy Rules

As is her custom, Lippy Rules (Peace Rules) leapt out of the gate, quickly clearing the field. However, this time she didn't stop and there was no one gaining. She even got a, "moving like a winner" from Trevor Denman. Monica CC closed well to just take the place spot away from No Wonder, who had been stalking from the break. By Far was also stalking early, but weakened a bit to finish fourth. Sugaree Gold (Congaree) was up with the pace early, but tired and ended up 10th. Libby Rules was claimed, and Wesley Ward will now be training her.

Sir Bubba Wins Despeightitall

Despeightitall (Speightstown) broke well and went on with the early pace, along with Piner Moutain and Chapel by the Sea. Piner Mountain took the lead, while Despeightitall was running wide and a bit green. Sir Bubba, who was never far back, took control in the stretch as Di's Dr Schumocker and Dookie Duck closed. Despeightitall did well to hold 4th. Signet Ring (Medaglia d'Oro) was off a step slow and never really got involved, finishing 9th. Shofar was scratched.

News and Notes

The closing day feature at Del Mar, the Del Mar Futurity, ended with a photo, as Midshipman got his nose in front of Coronet of a Baron. Closing well on the rail was maiden Street Hero, who was 3/4 length back. All three colts look to have promising futures. Favorite Southern Exchange settled for fourth, after being part of the pace from the break.

2nd request:  What is your opinion so far of Smarty Jones as a new sire??

Linda Guffey - Sorry, I responded to your comment on the blog post where it was posted. This is what I wrote:  I am not an expert at rating stallions, but I think it's a little too early to rate Smarty. He's only had 10 runners. However, his percentages are pretty good, considering 4 of those runners have won.
