Home Run Star and Wool Gathering dueled early, as favorite Nancy G. stalked the pace. Saar Treaty was in mid-pack, traveling well. Delectable Cat took a brief lead, but Saar Treaty came running in the stretch, gobbling up ground and swept to the lead. Changing Vista rallied well for 2nd, but there was no catching Saar Treaty. The time was not great, but the ground was rated good and you had to like the way Saar Treaty won. I was pleased with this win, because I thought she would run well after closing at 5 furlongs on the turf last time out. I was also happy that most did not think she would run well, as I had $5 across on her.

Forbidden Dreams Rule L. A.
L. A. Rules (Peace Rules) broke with the front pack and sat second, as Bearcatt scampered to a clear lead. L. A. Rules edged closer to Bearcatt throughout, but Forbidden Dreams swept by everyone to get up late for the win. L. A. Rules was lucky to hold off a closing Always a Gentleman for show. Live, it looked like Always a Gentleman had it. By the way, L. A. Rules took a lot of early money in this one and was 2-5 the first time I saw the odds.

Titranium Has a Wholelotatricks For Texas Birdstone
Soon after the start, this one separated into a couple of groups. On the lead were Coyotepass, Golden Run, Wholelotatricks, and Titranium. Several lengths back were Texas Birdstone (Birdstone), Mercury Express, and Aptobefirst. Texas Birdstone passed a few as they tired, but basically ran evenly into the stretch in fourth. Meanwhile, first-time starter Titranium hit the lead and kept on going, justifying his even-money odds with a 7 length win.

Trifecta King (Peace Rules - Mamita by Unbridled) tries stakes company again after finishing last in both the Del Mar Debutante (gr. I) on September 1, and the Sorrento Stakes (gr. III) on August 6. This time, she'll try easier company at Fairplex, and that may be enough to change the results. Previously, Trifecta King won the Cinderella Stakes on May 25.
Fifth behind Trifecta King in the Cinderella was Makasi (Indian Charlie - Floral Bounty by Pirate's Bounty), who was a maiden at the time. Makasi broke her maiden on June 11 in a Maiden Claiming race at Hollywood Park. She has had 6 workouts since that maiden score.
Malusita (Pure Prize - Proud Little Phony by Phone Trick) also ran in the Sorrento, finishing 5th. Since that race, she has had three workouts, including a bullet 5 furlong work at Fairplex on September 6. Prior to the Sorrento, Malusita finished 7th in the Landaluce Stakes.
Also running in the Landaluce was Listisimo (More Than Ready - Harbor Princess by Boston Harbor), who was 5th. Since that race, she ran 6th in the California Thoroughbred Breeders' Association Stakes (restricted to California-breds) on July 18, and 6th in the Generous Portion Stakes on August 27.
The remaining fillies do not have stakes experience.
The only entrant with 2 wins is Miss Dixie Dancer (Olmodavor - Dixieland Dancer by Dixieland Band). After breaking her maiden in a $32,000 Maiden Claiming race, she won a Starter Allowance and then finished 2nd (as the favorite) in a $40,000 claiming race.
The remaining winner in the field is Shouldabeenmaizey (Tannersmyman - Tappin Her Toes by Prince Colony), who broke her maiden on July 24 at Emerald Downs in a $7,500 Maiden Claiming race. She also finished 2nd in a claiming race on August 10 at Emerald. She had a decent 3 furlong work at Fairplex on September 9.
Victory Dancer (Victory Gallop - Devil's Nell by Devil's Bag) has run three times, all in Cal-bred maiden races, finishing 2nd (June 8), 2nd (July 8), and 6th (August 23). Since her last start, she has had 2 sharp workouts, one at Del Mar and one at Santa Anita.
Finishing 2nd in front of Victory Dancer on August 23 was Speedin Excess (In Excess (IRE) - Danish Dessert by Regal Classic). In that race, she led most of the way before being caught late. She has had 2 very fast workouts at Fairplex (including a 3 furlong bullet on September 2), in preparation for this race.
Like Speedin Excess, Pistoia (Marino Marini - Perky Patty by Noble Monk (IRE)) has also made one start in which she led for most of the race before being caught at the end. In Pistoia's case, she finished 3rd, a state-bred $40,000 Maiden Claiming race at Del Mar on September 1.
Emba U. T. K. (The Deputy (IRE) - Marfa's Finale by Marfa) finished 4th in her debut on August 10. This was a $32,000 Maiden Claiming race at Del Mar. She then finished 10th in a Maiden Special Weight at the same track on August 24.
On the AE list for this race are maiden By Far (E Dubai - Farasha by Carnivalay), who was 4th in her only start on September 3 at Del Mar, and Rocket Candy (Dixie Union - Idadidit by Ide) who is attempting to make her debut. Rocket Candy was a $50,000 2-year old and is the first foal out of a stakes-placed mare who earned $156,833.

Peace Town (Peace Rules - Darnestown by Williamstown) steps up to stakes competition, after a very impressive allowance win at Laurel last time out on August 14. In that race, he stumbled badly, but still managed to rally for the win. Previously, Peace Town broke his maiden by 8 lengths at Delaware Park on June 17. Now, we will see if Peace Town can transfer his form to the turf. If it comes off the turf, Peace Town should have an advantage, as his last win came in the mud at Laurel.
Finishing 2nd, behind Peace Town, on August 14 was Helookslikearnold (Lion Hearted - Thracian by Partner's Hero). Helookslikearnold also finished 5th in Peace Town's maiden win. In between those two races, he broke his maiden at Delaware Park on July 12. Like Peace Town, Helookslikearnold does not have turf experience.
One who has turf and stakes experience is Mr. Keeper (Lion Hearted - Talent by Cryptoclearance), who finished 2nd in the Chenery Stakes on the Colonial Downs turf on July 26, after breaking his maiden on the Colonial Downs dirt on June 10.
Second in Mr. Keeper's maiden score was Count On Lou (Marquetry - Irish Baroness by Larrupin'). Count On Lou also ran in the Chenery Stakes, finishing 7th. On July 4, Count On Lou broke his maiden by 15 lengths.
The most experienced horse in the field is Essenceofthemoon (Malibu Moon - Merryland Missy by Citidancer) who has won three races, including a victory in the Charles Town Juvenile Stakes in his most recent start on August 23. Essenceofthemoon also finished 5th in the Kentucky Stakes (gr. III) behind Run Away and Hide, and 3rd in the Tremont behind Dagnabit. Essenceofthemoon's $151,767 earnings easily leads the field.
Ready to Cruise (More Than Ready - River Cruise by Not For Love) was a winner in his only start, a Maiden Special Weight 6 furlong race on the dirt at Laurel on August 17. He came from off the pace in that one, to win by a head.
Finishing 7th in Ready to Cruise's maiden win was In The Juice (Rock Slide - Apple Juice by Pleasant Tap), who subsequently broke his maiden at Timonium on September 1.
Stone in Love (Lion Hearted - Purse Snatcher by Allen's Prospect) finished 5th in Helookslikearnold's maiden win. In his next start, a 4 furlong race at Timonium, he broke his maiden.
Completing the field is maiden Pilanesberg (Johannesburg - Tangier Sound by Rahy) who has run twice, finishing 2nd on June 29 at Monmouth, and 5th at Philadelphia Park on August 11. Both of these races were 5 furlongs on the dirt.

Conga Queen (Congaree - Special Test by Hawkin's Special) returns after finishing 8th in her debut at Lone Star Park on July 18. She did not have a very good trip in that race and hopefully will get a better one this time around. Since that race, she has had three works at Remington Park. Special Test, the dam of Conga Queen was a stakes winner at 2, 3, and 5 and earned $207,656. Conga Queen, who was a $40,000 yearling, is a half-sister to 3 winners including stakes winner Adopted Daughter. Congaree has sired 28 runners who have made 50 total starts, recording 11 wins, 7 seconds, 3 thirds, and $417,928.
Country Living (Concerto - Dame Georgette by No Sale George) has run twice at Arlington Park, finishing 2nd on July 26 and 8th on August 23. Bringing $90,000 as a 2-year old, Country Living is out of the winning mare Dame Georgette, who was stakes-placed at 2. Dame Georgette has produced 6 winners, including Collymore Hall, a stakes winner at 2. Collymore Hall is a full-sister to Country Living.
Finishing 2nd in her only start was Lorettine (Cherokee Run - Confessional by Holy Bull), who ran at Remington Park on August 24. Confessional, dam of Lorettine, was a grade I winner at 2 and earned $827,638 in her career. Confessional has produced 2 winners, including one that won at 2.
The final one with experience in this field is Make It Simple (Cape Canaveral - Singsingasong by Sultry Song), who finished 4th in her only start, at Lone Star on July 11. Make It Simple is out of a stakes-placed mare who has produced one winner from two starters.
Selling for $30,000 as a yearling was Blazing Belle (Jump Start - Vershinina by Cahill Road), who is by stakes winner Vershinina. Vershinina, who was also a winner at 2, earned $143,371 in a 24 race career. She has produced 2 winners, including one that won at 2.
Shifty Afoot (Northern Afleet - Strawberry Halo by Southern Halo) was a $25,000 yearling and is the 2nd foal out of a mare who is a half-sister to grade II stakes winner, Wimbledon.
Also by Northern Afleet is Northern Winn (Northern Afleet - Lightning Lydia by Broad Bush), who is the first foal by stakes-placed Lightning Lydia. Lightning Lydia is a full-sister to grade I winner Schossberg who earned $496,306 and was also 1 for 1 at 2.
Guthrie, the dam of Lady Guthrie (Zavata - Guthrie by Lord Avie), was a stakes winner at 2 and stakes-placed at 3 while earning $153,270. She has produced one winner.
Stormy Mountain (Monashee Mountain - Meadow Storm by Meadowlake) is out of the stakes winner Meadow Storm, who earned $182,165. Meadow Storm has produced 5 winners.
Staraway, dam of Mona Quita (El Corredor - Staraway by Star de Naskra) won or placed in 30 (no, that's not a misprint) stakes while earning $464,935. She has produced 2 winners, including group II winner, Sander Camillo.
Jimsturntogeteven (Stephen Got Even - Just a Spec by Mining) is out of a winning mare who is a half-sister to 9 winners.

News and Notes
Congar Light (Congaree) was scratched from her debut at Laurel. The winner in that one was Huge, who in the words of the track announcer, "ran huge." Nervous Laughter and Bevy also closed well.
Lord Shanakill (Speightstown) finished 5th in the Polypipe Flying Childers Stakes (Fr-II) on September 12 on the soft going. He was making up ground at the end.
Several good 2-year old graded stakes races this weekend. No Maiden Watch horses involved, but plenty of familiar names. The Futurity Stakes at Belmont on September 13, includes Friesan Fire, Gone Astray, Girolamo, and Charitable Man. The Matron at Belmont includes Doremifasollatido, Miss Ocean City, Obsequious, and Persistently. And at Arlington, a big field of 14 take on the Arlington-Washing Futurity. Familiar names include His Greatness, My Dominick James, and Advice. On September 14, there is the Natalma Stakes on the turf for 2-year old fillies. This field includes Lady Shakespeare, C Karma, and Panther Strike.
Check out Part II of HRTV's Pursuit of the Cup for more about the Juveniles. Maiden Watch's C. S. Silk receives a lot of attention.
Also in action Saturday is Guadalcanal, who runs in a mile and a half allowance race on the turf at Kentucky Downs.
