Unbelievable, there are no entries for Friday, September 26. Plenty of action coming Saturday, however. One scratch on the September 25,
Tobin's Rules (Peace Rules) at Calder. That race was taken by favorite
Candy Jak.
Haynesfield Makes it Look Easy
Haynesfield (Speightstown) broke on top with favorite Smokin Hero glued to his flank. Those two were a team through fairly easy early fractions. Edgar Prado on Haynesfield was sitting chilly. Legal Consent made a run in the stretch, but there were no worries for Haynesfield who drew off under a hand ride. No need for the stick in this one.

Katolak Cowboy Ropes Joe
Seismologist was off to a slow start, while Tashi went right to the lead. Balm Beach was up there early, but faded. Passport Joe began to pressure Tashi, then went on by as that one retreated. Katolak Cowboy was rallying, however, and he slowly but surely overtook the leader. The margin wasn't great, but Katolak Cowboy was in control. Katolak Cowboy has now won 3 races and earned $73,571.

Port of New York Sails; Mr. Sourland Takes a Wrong Turn
Port of New York broke slowly, as My Pal Grappo was first out. However, Mulherengo soon wrestled the lead away from that one. Mr. Sourland (Saarland) was in a tracking position and started making good progress. Then, he hit the turn and headed for the outside rail. Yes, another one of those. He ended up being eased. Meanwhile, Port of New York was making up ground despite the poor start and took command late.

Elvis Sings a Winning Tune Over Masqued Tsaar
Lots of trouble lines in this one, starting with Tough who went to his nose at the break and also found trouble in the stretch. Moonshine Mania held the early lead, pursued by Forlouie who had to check several times. Elvis Valentino took over after 6 furlongs, but he had to hold off Bob's Big Bunch and a resurgent Tough. Forlouie also ran on after his troubles and just missed third. Masqued Tsaar (Saarland) broke slowly, but did catch two. In the gallop out, he was right up with the winner.

Lucky Seventeen Bumps Off Stone Skipper, Gifts for a King
Lucky Seventeen went right to the lead, pressed by Stone Skipper (Birdstone). Soft Shoe was off slow. Lucky Seventeen and Stone Skipper separated from the rest of the field and it seemed like Stone Skipper would go by his opponent at any time, but Lucky Seventeen held firm. Furthermore, Lucky Seventeen bumped Stone Skipper repeatedly in the stretch. You've seen the Birdstones, those little things can't take much bumping. At the finish, Majestic Gentleman closed with a rush to create a three horse photo for the win. Lucky Seventeen prevailed by a head, while Stone Skipper was a nose in front of Majestic Gentleman. There was an inquiry and a rider's objection, but in the end, Lucky Seventeen was awarded the win. Gifts for a King (Saarland) showed brief interest, before fading to the back.

Habaya is Just Livin the Gold d'Oro Dream
Favorite Just Livin a Dream broke on top, but settled into a stalking position, as Green Pond made the lead. She was chased by Concorde's Dance, who took a brief lead in the stretch. Gold d'Oro (Medaglia d'Oro) broke awkwardly, but secured a good position. She looked like a winner for a time, but weakened a bit and settled for fourth. Still, it was a promising debut. Just Livin a Dream, Nan, and Habaya all closed at the end, but Habaya charged home best of all for the victory. Just Livin a Dream had to settle for second, and Nan showed why she should stay on the turf, taking the third spot. How a filly by Storm Cat out of Golden Apples goes off at 9-1 is a mystery.
