7. West Side Bernie
8. Just Like Biscuit

Da Bear Facts (Congaree - Impending Bear by Farma Way) tries stakes company on the Polytrack at Turfway Park, after breaking his maiden last time out on the Presque Isle Downs Tapeta on August 24. That race was his 4th start. He seemed to improve as the distances increased, and the mile and a sixteenth of this race should not be an issue. The Kentucky Cup Juvenile Stakes may not have the same prestige or history as other 2-year old races across the country, but it has produced a number of Breeders' Cup Juvenile performers. Vindication won both the Kentucky Cup Juvenile and the Breeders' Cup Juvenile, and Aly's Alley, Point Given, and Repent finished 2nd in the Breeders' Cup after winning at Turfway.

The only stakes winner in the field is Proud Jefe (Proud Citizen - Besige by Polish Numbers) who broke his maiden on June 27, and then won the Brian Barenscheer Juvenile Stakes at Canterbury Park on July 20. In his most recent start, Proud Jefe finished 5th in the Saratoga Special (gr. II) on August 14. Proud Jefe's longest race was at 6.5 furlongs.

Retap (Tapit - Free Spin by Olympio), by first-crop sire Tapit, broke his maiden in his debut, on May 14 at Churchill Downs. He then ran 2nd in both the Prairie Gold Juvenile Stakes and the Mountaineer Juvenile Stakes. The latter race was on August 2. He has not raced beyond 6 furlongs.

The last horse with stakes experience is our old friend Just Like Biscuit (Sligo Bay (IRE) - Evita's Song by Conquistador Cielo), who was 4th in the 1 1/16 mile Cradle on the turf, after breaking his maiden on August 24 on the Ellis Park turf. Just Like Biscuit is the only entrant who has gone a mile and a sixteenth.

The remaining horses are coming into the race off of their maiden wins, including West Side Bernie (Bernstein - Time Honored by Gilded Time), whose only start resulted in an off-the-pace victory. That race was at a mile and 70 yards at Monmouth Park.

Gresham (Seeking the Gold - Alexi Dancer by A. P. Indy) finished 2nd in his debut, at 5 furlongs at Ellis Park on July 18. In his next start on August 24, he won at Arlington Park at 6.5 furlongs. In both starts, he came from off the pace.

Tar Beach (Sky Mesa - Quichesterbahn by Broad Brush) has also run twice, finishing 7th in his debut at Churchill Downs on July 5, and then winning at Saratoga on August 15. This second race was at 7 furlongs, the farthest he has run.

Sir Bubba (Five Star Day - Shiroyama by Seattle Slew) broke his maiden in his third start, at Turfway on September 3. Like others in the field, he has been running in sprints.

12. Unsung Song

Undefeated Peace Town (Peace Rules - Darnestown by Williamstown) will try the Fitz Dixon, Jr. Memorial Juvenile Stakes, after scratching from the Oliver Twist Stakes at Laurel on September 13. This looks like a tougher spot, so his connections must have some confidence in him. Peace Town broke his maiden on June 17 by 8 lengths at Delaware Park, and then won an allowance impressively on August 14 at Laurel, after stumbling at the break. Since that race, he has had two works at Fair Hill.

Wynning Pursuit (Black Tie Affair (IRE) - Shocking Life by Boundary) won at first try at Mountaineer on July 5. He then finished 3rd in the Mountaineer Juvenile Stakes and 5th in the Charles Town Juvenile Stakes, before taking his second win in an allowance race at Mountaineer on September 8. Since that race, he has had one workout, a bullet on September 16.

One of Wynning Pursuit's opponents in the Mountaineer Juvenile Stakes was Prowl On (Roar of the Tiger - Always On the Go by Lord Carson), by first-crop sire Roar of the Tiger, who was 5th. Previously, Prowl On broke his maiden on June 26 at Presque Isle and then returned to the track for an allowance win on July 10. He has had four works since the Mountaineer Juvenile Stakes. The winner of the Mountaineer Juvenile Stakes was Terrain, who took the Arlington-Washington Futurity by double disqualification.

No other horse in the race has more than one win.

Cognito (Langfuhr - Coral Sea by Rubiano) broke his maiden in his 2nd start, at Saratoga on July 23. He then ran 8th in the Hopeful Stakes (gr. I) on September 1. He has been working regularly since that defeat. In his first start, he was defeated by Proud Jefe, who runs in the Kentucky Cup Juvenile on September 27.

Breaking his maiden in his first start was Unsung Song (Unbridled's Song - Sisti's Pride by Forestry), who ran at Presque Isle Downs on July 26. Finishing third in that race was Player's List who also runs in this one. Unsung Song's 2nd start came in the Saratoga Special (gr. II) on August 14 where he finished 8. His most recent effort came in an allowance race at Presque Isle Downs on September 5. In that race, he finished 3rd behind Katolak Cowboy and Live the Dash. Unsung Song has worked once since that race.

The only other entrant with stakes experience is Citizen (City Zip - Rachel's Star by Seeking the Gold) who was 3rd in the James C. Ellis Juvenile Stakes on August 16. Citizen had broken his maiden in his 2nd start on July 18. Finishing 2nd in that race was Gresham, who runs in the Kentucky Cup Juvenile on September 27.

Wynn's Big Joker (Phone Saga - Landing Card by Press Card), King Puma (Forest Wildcat - Added Time by Gilded Time), and Gallatin Forest (Forest Wildcat - Earthly Angel by Crafty Prospector) all won their first and only starts. Wynn's Big Joker, who raced at Mountaineer on September 2, scored by more than 9 lengths, gate-to-wire. King Puma, who did his running at Monmouth on September 1, stalked the early pace before winning by 7. Gallatin Forest won at big odds at Presque Isle on August 21, dueling for the lead before taking command.

Forbidden Dreams (Forbidden Apple - Breaking Storm by Stormy Atlantic) broke his maiden in his fifth start at Woodbine on September 12, coming from off the pace. Previously, he had finished 2nd, 6th, 4th, and 3rd.

The field is completed by maidens Player's List (Gimmeawink - Darned Alarming by Darn That Alarm) and Sunday Blitz (Sunday Break (JPN) - Swan by Cherokee Run). Player's List, who is by first-year sire Gimmeawink, has run 8 times, 6 times at Presque Isle Downs and twice at Woodbine. His best finish was a third, behind Unsung Song on July 26. Player's List also finished 4th in Prowl On's maiden score. Other familiar faces who have defeated Player's List include Katolak Cowboy, Causin Havoc, and Da Bear Facts. In contrast to Player's List, Sunday Blitz has made only one start, at Philadelphia Park on September 1. In that race, he was third after flattening out in the stretch.
