Cradle of Peace Takes a Turn

Three scratches - Home Skillet, Indomitable Prince, and Makesmehappy, left this one as a five horse race. Cradle of Peace (Peace Rules) went off as the heavy 1-2 favorite, but it was Harley J who broke on top. Cradle of Peace was in a good spot in second and started moving up. Then in the turn, Cradle of Peace swerved, almost unseating his rider. I thought, uh-oh, here we go again. But, Ramon Dominguez was able to straighten him out and once he was going in the right direction, he swept by Harley J to win by 2.

In case of rain, Maiden Watch horse Saarlandisourland (Saarland - Crypto Kate by Tabasco Cat) is on the MTO list. Saarlandisourland is still a maiden, with her best finish a fifth on the Saratoga turf on August 7.

Laragh (Tapit - Rose of Summer by El Prado (IRE)) is the only entrant with stakes experience on the turf. After breaking her maiden on the Woodbine Polytrack on August 9, she finished 5th in the Natalma (Can-IIIT). In that mile race, she led for most of the race before tiring.

Casanova Move (Langfuhr - Casanova Junction by Pleasant Colony) broke her maiden in her 2nd start, leading almost the entire race to win by 9. In her next start, she finished 4th in the Spinaway (gr. I). She has not run on the turf, but has worked on the surface.

Neither Freedom Rings (Proud Citizen - Dana's Wedding by Compliance) nor Countess Seagrape (Arch - Hunting Valley by Valley Crossing) have won a race, but they are both stakes-placed. Freedom Rings has made two starts, finishing 3rd on the Saratoga turf on August 7 and 2nd in the Fairway Stakes on the Delaware dirt. Countess Seagrape has no turf experience. Like Our Golden Dream, Consequence (El Prado (IRE) - Educated Risk by Mr. Prospector), Maram (Sahm - American Dreamer by Quest for Fame (GB)), and Megachurch (Pulpit - Minimalist by Dynaformer) all broke their maidens in their first and only start, which was on the turf. Consequence's win came at 5.5 furlongs at Saratoga on August 20, where she came from off the pace. Maram also came from off the pace to win her 1 1/16 mile contest at Saratoga on August 25. Megachurch stalked the pace before taking the lead, in her mile contest at Del Mar on August 5.

My Magic Moment (Forest Wildcat - Sari by Cozzene) finished 5th and 3rd in two dirt contests, before breaking her maiden in a 6 furlong turf race at Belmont on September 12.

Miss Bodine (Vindication - Guilded Times by Crafty Prospector) went gate-to-wire on August 3 at Saratoga to break her maiden in her second start. She has never run on the turf.

I have a pretty good memory and I can readily identify the sire of most of the Maiden Watch horses when I hear their names. However, Congor Bay (Speightstown - Pico Teneriffe by Red Ransom) is one that almost always trips me up. Congor Bay that's easy, Congaree, right? Nope, he's by Speightstown.
