Pamona Ball is Steel Lucky

Feeling Lucky

Steel Lucky (Congaree) came out of the gate well and secured a rail spot behind the leader, Strickly a Lady. Steel Lucky went to the lead after a half, but the favorite Icy Land Lady was rolling and for a minute looked like she would sail on by. But, Steel Lucky found more and Icy Land Lady flattened out, and Steel Lucky was clear by better than 2. Steel Lucky is the 12 winner for her sire, Congaree.

Pamona Has a Ball

Singita broke on top and took command, with Wear Blush (Congaree) her closest pursuer. Singita began to tire and Wear Blush assumed the lead in the stretch. Meanwhile, Pamona Ball (Pleasantly Perfect) was stuck in traffic (yes traffic, in a 6 horse race). Once she got through, she spurted to the lead. Favorite Vikkilee was closing too, but Pamona Ball was too much for her. Pamona Ball is Pleasantly Perfect's 5th winner.

Jolly Jordyn Shows Brave Spirit Over Barrichello

Pacific Calm vaulted out of the gate, seemed to be 4 in front of the field instantly. His closest pursuer was Just Trippinalong. Barrichello (Speightstown) came out ok and sat about mid-pack. Pacific Calm hit his limit in the stretch, and the closers began to come. Moving best of all was Jolly Jordyn who swept to the lead and kept on running. Brave Spirit also made up a lot of ground to take 2nd, while White Balance just got up for third over a tiring Pacific Calm. Barrichello swung wide, but didn't make up any ground, ending up 7th.

Dancer Pulls the Win Over Slick Miss

Seaside Home dueled with Vick's Violet early. Waccamaw was sitting just off of these, waiting for an opportunity. Vick's Violet began to tire, leaving Seaside Home alone. But this did not last long, as Waccamaw pounced and hit the front. However, Pull Dancer was coming. Waccamaw kept up with her for a while, but in the end Pull Dancer was too much and took the win. Slick Miss (Congaree) ran evenly, but didn't have much punch in the stretch. (Is it just me or does Waccamaw sound like Wack a Mole?)

El Brujo Closes the Allowance on Breakwithtradition

Saddle Creek took the early lead, but he had plenty of company, chiefly Lord of Greatness, Contango, and Bear's Rocket. El Brujo was sitting off of these, swung 5 wide and went by them all. I didn't see much of Breakwithtradition (Birdstone), I think I have to agree with the chart comments, "never in contention." That sums it up pretty well. By the way, since Jolly Jordyn won the 5th at Woodbine, how did the horse that beat him last time (Fernbrook) fare in this one? He finished 6th. Not really a fair test, since Jolly Jordyn's was a Maiden Claiming and this was an Allowance, but interesting to note nonetheless.

Ben and Doug Cruises; Saddle Slippage for Mr. Sourland

Cass's Fast Ball was fast out of the gate, but Noroamin and Ben and Doug were in touch. Cass's Fast Ball began to tire, and Ben and Doug came rolling 3 wide to cruise to the lead. The final winning margin was 5 lengths. Noroamin put in a good effort at 64-1, as did 20-1 Silver Nugget. Mr. Sourland (Saarland) wiped out Cash N Carry at the break, then his saddle slipped and he was eased. Draw a line through this one. (I hate compound names for the grammatical dilemma they pose. "Ben and Doug Cruises" is correct, but sure sounds strange.)

11. Phatzo
12. Texas Birdstone

How is this for an interesting scenario, a maiden named Texas Birdstone (Birdstone - Imatexantoo by Ray's Pegasus) runs in a stakes race at Louisiana Downs which is restricted to Arkansas-breds. There is an explanation. Texas Birdstone, despite the name, was bred in Arkansas. As far as his maiden status goes, there is actually only one horse in the field with a win, Chadnjamie (Macabe - Nenantena by Unbridled's Risk). Texas Birdstone finished 3rd in his debut at Lone Star Park on July 10, and 4th at Remington Park on September 12. He has had three works since that start. Texas Birdstone is a half-brother to 6 winners, including Texas Code who was a stakes winner at 2 and 3, earning $182,149.

As mentioned above, the only winner in the field is Chadnjamie, who broke his maiden in his first start, on August 15 at Louisiana Downs. He also finished 7th in Allowance company on September 1 at Louisiana Downs.

The Mallard Man (Sunday Break (JPN) - Y Worry B Happy by Bucksplasher) and Red Guneyli (Storm and a Half - Keekeeflyer by Hot Oil) are making their debuts in this one. Y Worry B Happy, dam of The Mallard Man, was a stakes winner at 2. She has produced 3 winners. Red Guneyli is a half- or full-sister to 6 winners.

Phatzo (Father Steve - Certain Conviction by Believe It) and Big Rocky (Storm and a Half - Be Good Molly by Proper Reality) met on September 14, finishing 8th and 9th respectively. Phatzo is out of a winning mare, who has produced 4 winners, including one 2-year old winner. Big Rocky is out of a winning mare, who has produced one winner from one to run.

Senor Smiley (Bold Anthony - On Her Merit by Kennedy Road) has made 2 starts at Canterbury Park, finishing 2nd on August 3 and 4th on August 31. He is out of a winning mare who has produced 10 winners, including stakes winners Wishes Three, Wish for Candi, Hoist Anchor, and Bold Merit.

Another veteran of two starts is Secrets Sweet Pea (Storm and a Half - Texas Secret by Tinners Way) who finished 7th on the Lone Star turf on July 4, and 6th on the Louisiana Downs dirt on September 27. Secrets Sweet Pea is the first foal out of the winning mare Texas Secret, who is a half-sister to 5 winners. Texas Secret is also a half-sister to Texas Birdstone.

The remaining entrants have made one start. Marvelous Thunder (Slew City Slew - Kelly's Legion by American Legion) finished 7th on the Louisiana Downs turf on September 25. He is out of a winning mare who has produced 4 winners.

Poppas Half (Storm and a Half - Prefer Wine by Quadratic) was 8th in his only start, 5.5 furlongs at Louisiana Downs on September 27. His dam was a winner, who has produced 2 winners.

Storming Back (Storm and a Half - Me 'n Linda Marie by Proper Reality) was 9th in his lone start, at Retama on September 27. He is out of a winning mare who has produced one winner, Brother Norm, who was third in last year's Razorback Futurity.

Finishing 11th in his only start was Etjet (Etbauer - Fighting Ruler by Fight Over), who ran at Remington Park on September 18. His dam is a half-sister to 2 winners.

Pick's Express (Speightstown - Program Pick by Peterhof), who broke his maiden in his first start on June 28, before finishing 3rd in allowance company on July 28 and 4th in the Fasig Tipton Turf Dash on September 6, stays on the turf, but returns to allowance company for this try at Calder. He set the pace in the Fasig Tipton Turf Dash before giving way and a repeat performance could bring victory here. Since that race, he has had two works.

New God Code (Omega Code - Kylie is for Real by Prospect Bay) also ran in the Fasig Tipton Turf Dash, finishing 5th. It was the 2nd time that he had finished behind Pick's Express, as New God Code was 4th in Pick's Express' debut win. New God Code, who is by first-crop sire Omega Code, broke his maiden on August 14 at Calder. His most recent effort came in an allowance race on September 14 in which he finished 4th after setting the pace.

Finishing 2nd to New God Code in that horse's maiden win was Sir Edgar (Three Wonders - Monumenthal by Mr. Greeley). Since then, Sir Edgar has finished 1st in two maiden races. However, he was disqualified in the first one and officially broke his maiden on September 13 at Calder. He has had no starts on the turf.

Ideal Exchange (Exchange Rate - Cape Verde by Mt. Livermore) broke his maiden in his 2nd start, on May 10 at Calder. Since then, he has run in three straight stakes races, finishing 2nd in the B L's Sweep on June 15, 6th in the Frank Gomez Memorial Stakes on July 12, and 10th in the Florida Stallion Dr Fager Stakes on August 16. He has not run on grass.

One that does have turf experience is Mischief Man (Awesome Sword - Laniger by Mister Lorenzo), as he has only run on that surface. He finished 6th in his debut on yielding turf on July 8, and then broke his maiden on July 19 on firm turf. His most recent effort was a 6th place finish in the Chenery Stakes on July 26. All of his past running was done at Colonial Downs. He has had one work since his last start.

The only other horse with turf experience is the maiden Forest Grinder (Forestry - Starboard Tack by Seattle Slew), who finished 3rd in the Catcharisingstar Stakes on September 6 at Calder. This was Forest Grinder's only start.

Lots of Tricks (City Place - Gray Trick by Favorite Trick) broke his maiden 3rd time out, June 29 at Calder. By freshman sire City Place, Lots of Tricks tried allowance company his next two times, finishing 6th on July 28 (in the same race in which Pick's Express was 3rd), and 4th in the slop on August 22.

Hold That Broad (Hold That Tiger - Aggressive Broad by Broad Brush) broke his maiden in his 2nd start, way back on June 2 at Delaware Park. However, he has had regular works since mid-September.

Pleasantly Perfect Fan - Absolutely. Before the race, the HRTV folks were doubting Pleasantly Perfect's ability to get a turf winner. I'm not sure why, just because he didn't win on the turf, the Pleasant Colonies can run on anything. And, I was thinking, well he already has one turf winner from a limited sample. Then, he leaps out of there and doesn't look back.

Yes Inotmysoul won at Belmont and paid $90 bucks! Did wonders for my TVG account.lol I have to say that I am suprised at his turf runners, but your right, the PC's are just flat out runners no matter what the surface. Wish the BC was alittle farther down the road, I would love to see P.E go to the BC Juvy Turf!
