Breeders' Cup Notes

Not much to report on the day except that Renda (Medaglia d'Oro) took a spin on the turf. According to the Daily Racing Form, she loved it. Also, I finally saw Munnings' (Speightstown) work from Sunday. He worked in company with his stablemate, Silent Valor, and definitely outworked that one.

Thursday, I will preview the two Juvenile Filly races, focusing on the Maiden Watch horses.

Winthrop House Masters Caffe D'Oro

Winthrop House and Distant Strike battled until the stretch, when Winthrop House began to pull away. Caffe D'Oro (Medaglia d'Oro) broke well and sat 6th early. He moved between runners and made up some ground, then was swung outward. He seemed to take a bad step or maybe just hesitate, but then got in gear again. He was rolling late to finish just a couple of necks out of 2nd. A promising debut for this one.

Robin Romin Over Hug It Out

Hug It Out went off at 2-5. She secured a rail spot behind the speed of Moleen, Secret Spell, and Fervent Hope. Hug It Out moved into 3rd without effort, but she was behind a wall of horses. Meanwhile, Seismic Shift moved 4-wide to take the lead. Also closing was Oro Gatita. Hug It Out finally got through on the rail, but it may have been too late. Closing best of all was Romin Robin, who was a bit erratic, but got the job done.

The Update: It's Time for True Bliss

True Bliss went straight to the lead under a big hold from Julien Leparoux. Ruth E took a run at her, but couldn't sustain it. Sue's Update (Medaglia d'Oro) was near the back early, but starting picking them off, moving up to 5th, then 4th, and then up to second. But, she stalled there and was passed late by It's Tiffin Time, who closed with good energy.

I Guess She's Due

I didn't get to watch this one live, so I had to go to the replay. This was characterized by a fuzzy picture and a sometimes black screen, so I may have missed some of the details. Go Spanish Code was left at the break and never involved. Inbackofyourmind led early, dueling with Miss Danica. Inbackofyourmind faded and Miss Danica took over. But, she was no match for a driving She's Due. Sweetie Bird (Birdstone) was at the back of the leading pack early on, but she lost some ground in the stretch. She finished a respectable 4th.

BittelRoad - I saw Munnings' work on TVG's The Works show. It's probably online on their site, but you have to have a TVG account.
