Passion Overtakes Antigone

This Cat Can Dance held the early lead, pursued by Passion Du Coeur (who drew in from the AE list). Antigone Jones (Smarty Jones) broke ok and was 4th early on the rail. But, she soon began losing ground and ended up 9th. Meanwhile up front, Passion Du Coeur overtook This Cat Can Dance and took command. Heart Ashley and Smoking Kitty, who had both been close, took 2nd and 3rd respectively and Bandora closed for 4th.

Normansbirdie (Birdstone - She's A Cool Cat by Mountain Cat) broke her maiden in her 2nd start, in a 6 furlong race at Calder on September 11. She then ran in an allowance race at a mile on the turf on October 17, finishing 9th. She now returns to the dirt and drops into claiming company and cuts back to 6 furlongs. Her first start on August 31, in which she finished 3rd, was Dance N Run's maiden victory.

Dance N Run (Kafwain - My Dilemma by Sword Dance (IRE)) has previously faced many of today's entrants. In addition to facing Normansbirdie on August 31, she also finished in front of Badboy Brian in a maiden race on August 17, behind Marena in a claiming race on September 18, and behind both Swing Music and Margaret Smile in her most recent start, a claiming race on October 12.

Swing Music (Mancini - My Statue by Belong To Me) and Margaret Smile (Concerto - Perfect Catch by Rahy) have raced against each other in their last three starts at Calder. On September 6, Margaret Smile was 3rd and Swing Music 4th, in an allowance race. Then, Swing Music finished 2nd and Margaret Smile 3rd in 2 straight claiming races. Swing Music has run a total of 7 times, winning 1 and finishing 2nd 4 times. Margaret Smile has made 6 starts, winning once and finishing 3rd three times.

Facing Swing Music and Margaret Smile in their last two starts, was Queen Electra (Wind Whipper - Private Lady by Private Terms) who finished 6th and 5th in those starts. Queen Electra broke her maiden in her third start, coming from off the pace and getting up late.

Soca Dancer (Dance Master - Sejm's West Acre by West Acre) and Tiger Touch (Roar of the Tiger - Possy Fingers by Posse) met on October 5 in a claiming race at Calder, finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively. Both horses had broken their maidens in the start immediately preceeding that one.

Mareana (Northern Afleet - Silverlado by Saint Ballado) and Sugah Dancin (Dance Master - Don't Sugah Me by Cherokee Run) have both run 8 times. Mareana broke her maiden in her 5th start on August 10, and then finsihed 3rd in a claiming race, 7th in the Catcharisingstar Stakes (at 5 furlongs on the turf) on September 6 and 3rd in a claiming race on September 18. One of her opponents in that one was Sugah Dancin, who was 10th. Sugah Dancin broke her maiden on September 1, in her 7th start. In that maiden win, she led for most of the race.

Badboy Brian (Northern Afleet - Betty's Hat by Harry the Hat) also ran in the Catcharisingstar Stakes, finishing 8th. Badboy Brian was a maiden at that time. She broke her maiden in her most recent start on a sloppy Calder track on October 9. Yes, Badboy Brian is a filly.

Keep Running (Strong Hope - Raintree Lake by Salt Lake) has run 7 times. She broke her maiden on October 3 in a 5 furlong race while leading the whole way. Since then, she finished 7th in an allowance race on October 12.

Mullins Beach (Speightown - Treasure Beach by Silver Deputy) broke her maiden in her 2nd start, in a 7 furlong turf race at Woodbine on August 31. After that, she tried stakes company in the Mazarine on October 5, finishing 8th while racing wide. She has had one work since that race, and will try allowance company at 6 furlongs on the Woodbine Polytrack.

Also returning from the Mazarine are Georgia Song (Songandaprayer - Mia Bird Too by Proud Birdie) who was 2nd, Babylonian (Put It Back - Mint Tulip by State Dinner) who was 7th, and After the Applause (Lost Soldier - Cades Cove by Kayrawan) who was 9th. Georgia Song also finished 3rd in the My Dear Stakes while still a maiden. She broke her maiden in 4th start, a 5.5 furlong maiden race on the Woodbine Polytrack on August 21. Second in that race was Essence of Silver, who also runs in this race. Georgia Song initially faced winners in an allowance race on September 11, where she finished 2nd. Babylonian broke her maiden in her only other start, a 6 furlong maiden race at Woodbine on September 7. After the Applause also broke her maiden in her first start, a 5 furlong race at Calder on July 19. Since then, she has faced nothing but stakes company. In addition to the 9th in the Mazarine, she was 2nd in the Ontario Debutante on August 16, and 4th in the Natalma Stakes on September 14. Both of those races were at Woodbine, the Debutante on the dirt and the Natalma on the turf.

Back to Therapy (Sea of Secrets - Esthers Ball by Party Manners) also ran in the Ontario Debutante, finishing 8th. She broke her maiden in her only previous start at Calder on July 18, where she led all the way and won by 10.

Campfire Girl (Forest Camp - Leah's Gold by Slew O' Gold) finished 3rd in the Presque Isle Debutante Stakes at Presque Isle in her last start on September 27. She had previously broken her maiden at Woodbine on September 7. Interesting, in Campfire Girl's first start on August 2 she finished 4th, behind Essence of Silver (2nd) and Mullins Beach (3rd).

Essence of Silver (Essence of Dubai - Never Been Kissed by Silver Deputy) has faced several of the fillies in this one. In addition to finishing in front of Mullins Beach and Campfire Girl on August 2, she has also run against Georgia Song several times. In the My Dear Girl stakes, Essence of Silver was 5th when Georgia Song was 3rd, and Essence of Silver was 2nd in Georgia Song's maiden victory. Essence of Silver broke her maiden in her most recent start, at 6.5 furlongs on the Woodbine turf on September 19. In that race, Essence of Silver stalked the pacesetter before taking control in the stretch.

Dash It Dreamer (Kiridashi - Itstartswithadream by American Chance) broke her maiden in her first start on July 26 at Woodbine, in gate-to-wire fashion. In her next start, the Victorian Queen Stakes on October 1, she led for much of the race before finishing 4th.

Nice Lady (Bold Executive - Bellamancer by Great Gladiator) has run 7 times, breaking his maiden in his most recent start on October 16 at Woodbine, a Maiden Claiming 6 furlong race. In that race, she dueled early and then drew clear. Her previous starts included a 8th place finish in Dash It Dreamer's maiden victory.

Maraschino Red (Medaglia d'Oro - Irish Cherry by Irish Open) will attempt to make her debut at Aqueduct where she is the first horse on the MTO list, in a race scheduled for 1 mile on the turf. The weather looks sunny tomorrow, but today's races were off the turf and muddy, so we'll see. Maraschino Red has been working at Saratoga and Belmont since mid-August. Maraschino Red sold for $200,000 as a yearling and $900,000 as a 2-year old. She is out of the stakes winner Irish Cherry, who earned $147,280. Irish Cherry, who sold for $2,700,000 at the Keeneland January Sale in 2008, is the dam of grade I winners Spun Sugar and Daaher, as well as 3 other winners. Medaglia d'Oro is the sire 42 runners who have made 118 total starts, recording 21 wins, 15 seconds, 15 thirds, and $844,727.

Haka (Dynaformer - Juke by Mr. Prospector), MTO entrant Always Willing (Elusive Quality - Always Loyal by Zilzal), and I'm Yours (Mr. Greeley - With This Ring by Green Dancer) met on a sloppy track in a 7 furlong race at Belmont on October 5, finishing 2nd, 3rd, and 4th respectfully. Haka is out of the stakes-placed mare Juke, who was also a winner at 2. Juke has produced one winner from one to run. Always Loyal, dam of Always Willing, was a group I winner in France, earning $246,425. Always Loyal has produced 3 winners, including one that won at 2. I'm Yours is a half-sister to 4 winners, including I Thee Wed who won the Nearctic Handicap (Can-IIT) on the turf. Two of I'm Yours' siblings won at 2 and three won on the turf.

Lauren E. (Aldebaran - Joan L. by Greinton (GB)) and Oh Yes I Pray (Johar - Cozzmic Wonder by Cozzene) met on the yielding Belmont turf course on October 3, with Lauren E. finishing 6th and Oh Yes I Pray 9th. Lauren E., who brought $30,000 as a yearling, is a half-sister to 4 winners, including Prairie Princess who won the Miesque Stakes (gr. III) at 2 on the turf and earned $159,730. Another sibling, Reverential, also won at 2 on the turf. Oh Yes I Pray, who was also 7th at Saratoga on August 20, is by first-crop sire Johar. Outstanding Henny (Hennessy - Outstanding Info by Tactical Advantage) has run twice, including a 2nd place finish at a mile and a sixteenth on the turf at Saratoga on August 25. Outstanding Info, the dam of Outstanding Henny, won or placed in 12 stakes including a 2nd in the Blue Hen Stakes as a 2-year old. She earned $322,092 in her career, but did not run on the turf. Outstanding Henny is her first foal.

Queen Caribees (Cozzene - Avie's Fancy by Lord Avie) was 4th in her only start, at a mile on the Delaware turf on October 5. She was a $90,000 yearling and is out of Avie's Fancy, who won or placed in 11 turf stakes (and 4 dirt stakes). Included in this total are wins in the Matchmaker Stakes (gr. II) and the Boiling Springs Handicap (gr. III). Avie's Fancy has produced 3 winners, including grade II stakes winner St Averil and stakes winner Our Cozzette. St Averil was a winner at 2 and also won on the turf.

Gozzip Girl (Dynaformer - Temperence Gift by Kingmambo) and Reforestation (Forestry - Wacky Becky by Gone West) both ran at Belmont on September 10, but in different races. Gozzip Girl was 6th in her mile race. She sold for $60,000 as a yearling, and is a half-sister to one winner who did win on the turf. Her dam is a half-sister to 7 winners, including stakes winners Mistress S. and Kodema. Reforestation, who was 4th in her 6 furlong contest, is out of stakes winner Wacky Becky. Wacky Becky had produced one winner.

Castanet (El Prado (IRE) - Dancinginmydreams by Seeking the Gold) was 5th in her only start, on September 28 on a muddy Belmont track. Dancinginmydreams, the dam of Castanet, was a debut winner at 2, who finished 2nd in the Matron (gr. I). She is also a full-sister to grade I stakes winners Heavenly Prize and Oh What a Windfall. However, Dancinginmydreams is probably better known for suffering and surviving a multiple-fraction of her right hind leg, which occurred in the 2000 Frizette. Castanet is Dancinginmydreams' 2nd foal to reach the races. Her first foal is Dancing Forever, who won the 2008 Manhattan Handicap on the Belmont Turf, and finished 3rd in the Breeders' Cup Turf.

Completing the main field is debut runner Quiet Wakita (Quiet American - Wakita by Lost Code), who sold for $95,000 as a yearling. Wakita, dam of Quiet Wakita, was a winner on the dirt and placed on the turf. Wakita has produced two winner, including Storm Code who was stakes-placed at 2. Both of her winning offspring won at 2 and one was a turf winner.

On the AE list is unraced Proud Lisa (Proud Citizen - Miss the Mark by Miner's Mark), who sold for $90,000 as a yearling. Proud Lisa is out of a winning mare who has produced one winner from one to race. That offspring won on the turf.

Also on the MTO list are Subprime (High Yield - Pleasant Boom by Pleasant Tap), Heckuva Hunter (Lion Heart - Catch a Glimpse by Gulch), and Super Child (Empire Maker - Tomorrows Empress by Regal Realm).

Subprime has made 2 starts, finishing 8th on the turf at Saratoga on August 29, and 3rd on the Belmont dirt on September 21. She is out of a winning mare who has produced 2 winners.

Heckuva Hunter (Lion Heart - Catch a Glimpse by Gulch), who is by freshman sire Lion Heart, has run three times, most recently finishing 2nd at Delaware on September 23. Run Kaitlyn Run's first foal, Muqs Quest, is a winner. Muqs Quest is a full brother to Buttons and Bows.

Beautiful American (Quiet American - Bye the Victory by Cool Victor) is a half-sister to 3 winners, including Teewee's Hope who was stakes-placed on the grass.

Cure Autism (Tannersmyman - Lady Essex by Sharp Victor) is out of a winning mare who has produced Autism Awareness, who won the 2008 El Camino Real Derby (gr. III). Cure Autism is a full-sister to Autism Awareness.
