Chary went to the early lead and soon drew clear by a couple. Pearl of Valor (Medaglia d'Oro) secured a rail spot in 4th. Verdant (Pleasantly Perfect) was near the back of the pack. Nala's Pride was Chary's closest pursuer, but both she and Chary began to tire in the stretch. At that point, favorite Satin Thunder, who was never that far back, made her move and hit the front. Pearl of Valor was swung wide and she came running, easily running down Satin Thunder. These two were well clear of the pack, but emerging from that pack was Verdant who came on for third despite some traffic problems. Pearl of Valor is the 17th winner for Medaglia d'Oro.

Soave Has the Exclusive Scheme
The rains came and the race came off the turf to be run in the mud. Cajun Belle, Grace's Valentine, Stormie Gray, and Zipolina all scratched, and MTO Asscher Cut drew in. Miss P J held the early lead, but she was soon overtaken by Exclusive Scheme (Saarland). However, favored Soave was not far off the pace and she came up to join Exclusive Scheme. Those two raced as a team throughout the stretch, leaving the rest of the field behind. At the wire, it was Soave by a neck. But, Exclusive Scheme was certainly not disgraced. It was a good 5 lengths back to third-place finisher Ms Stilleto.

I have a suspicion that Work for Peace (Peace Rules - Southern Solstice by Southern Halo) may be scratched from this one, since she is also entered in a race on Saturday at Delaware Park, but since Fabriziano (Congaree - Miami Blue by American Chance) is in as well, it won't be a wasted effort. Fabriziano was a $32,000 yearling, and is a half-sister to the winner, Sapphire Ridge. Their dam is a half-sister to graded stakes winners Be Cool and Biding Time. Conga Gold (Congaree - Added Gold by Gilded Time), who broke her maiden in her debut on September 3 and then ran 4th in a starter allowance race on October 7, is entered in a 1 mile turf allowance race at Churchill Downs (Race 6). She is the 2nd horse on the AE list. However, it is raining, so there is a chance that she could draw into the race. Post Time for this one is 3:04.
Curly is entered in a 1 1/16 mile allowance race at Hawthorne (Race 3). It's a compact 7 horse field, so I'm not sure that they'll be enough speed to set him up. He is breaking from the rail. Also in this race is old friend, Stirrup Excitement, who should set the pace, unless his running style has changed since last we saw him. Post Time for this one is 4:32.
