Performing Tricks Over Lookin Left

Wholelotatricks set the pace, pursued by Blue Heat. Poltergeist was just off these two. He came three wide and steadily gained until he overtook the leaders. It'a a little late for Halloween, but you've got to love the spooky exacta of Poltergeist and Wholelotatricks. Lookin Left (Congaree) was near the back early, but made up some ground late to finish 5th.

No Catching Chapel by the Sea for Bird Island

African Storm and Chapel by the Sea dueled early, but Chapel by the Sea soon took over. He continued to increase his lead throughout and won by better than 5. Bird Island (Birdstone) lunged at the start and was off slow. He was a good 12 - 15 lengths behind the leaders. After settling, he started moving up and managed to pass everyone but the winner. He was still more than 5 behind Chapel by the Sea, but his run through the pack was impressive. I can't wait to see this one stretch out.

A. P. Elegance Over One Hot Toddy and Mocha d'Oro

Table for Five and War Kill dueled early, but Table for Five gave up after a quarter. Past Twilight came running on the outside, and A. P. Elegance came on the inside. A. P. Elegance was going best and got up for the win. War Kill held off Past Twilight for 2nd. One Hot Toddy (Congaree) was in a good position in fourth and made a bid on the outside, but couldn't impact the top three. Still, it was a good return to the races for her. Our other runner, Mocha d'Oro (Medaglia d'Oro), didn't show much, trailing the field for much of the race before passing a couple of tired ones to finish 10th. It was her first start, so such antics are certainly forgivable.

Kongo Kicks Past Floating On Air

Mischabel held the early lead, with Tricky Deeds, Floating On Air (Peace Rules), and Kickin' Kongo sticking close. Mischabel and Tricky Deeds started droping back after a half and Kickin' Kongo emerged with the lead. Floating On Air was still in the mix, but the outside post took it's toll, as she tired a bit and ended up 5th. Latego Light and Emba U. T. K. both closed from nowhere to pick up 2nd and 3rd.

Mostly Peace No Match for Carpathian

Carpathian went right to the lead, pursued by Holdem's Susie B. She soon shook free from that one. Mostly Peace was stalking and came running on the turn. She moved easily into 2nd, but was no match for Carpathian, who continued to extend her lead. The final margin was 13 lengths. However, Mostly Peace was well clear of the rest of the field.

I have never seen a baby do what Bird Island did yesterday at Churchill.  A first time two year old starter that left the gate last, was at least fifteen lengths behind in a six furlough race, had to be moved off the rail coming for home, and still was barreling down the stretch to take second. I can't wait to see his next race. (Birdstone is the Father by the way.)

Joe - the purpose of this blog is to follow the 1st-crop offspring of some prominent racehorses, some picked by me and some picked by readers of the blog, it wasn't meant to be a prediction of sire success.

However, Speightstown, Medaglia d'Oro, Birdstone, Congaree, and Peace Rules are all in First-Crop Sire top 10, so I don't think that's too bad.
