Ten Maidens in action in seven races make for a Thanksgiving Day feast. I hope everyone has a happy one.
Just two results from November 26, as Gold d'Oro's (Medaglia d'Oro) race was taken off the turf and she was scratched, as were many of those in the main body of the race. Always Willing and Eleni's Hope got in off of the AE list and finished 1-2, and MTO Ride With the Herd finished 3rd.
It's Royal Joy Over Work for Peace and Fabriziano
Work for Peace (Peace Rules) went off at 1-2. Things looked good early, as she popped out of the gate and went right to the lead, as is her custom. Lionheartisflippin chased early, but she began to retreat. Fabriziano (Congaree) was in good position and took over 2nd from Lionheartisflippin. This didn't last long, however, as Royal Joy was coming. She came 4-wide, and neither Work for Peace nor Fabriziano had any response. They had to settle for 2nd and 3rd. It was a disappointing performance for Work for Peace, but on the other hand, it was a much improved result for Fabriziano.

Candy More Powerful than Free Beer
Free Beer (Medaglia d'Oro) was on his toes in the Post Parade, maybe using too much energy. The best moment was when Vic Stauffer was talking the crowd through the load and he mentioned Free Beer, cautioning that he was talking about the #3 horse and not a new offering from the concession stands. At the break, favorite Candy Arches went right to the lead. After a quarter, he was already 3 lengths ahead. Free Bear broke ok, but settled near the back of the pack. However, he started moving up the inside and got into contention. He was threatening to get into 2nd, but flattened out and finished 6th. Still, it was a promising beginning. Up front, Candy Arches kept up his lead, but there was battle for the minor awards. Nascar Johnny and El Chubasco were closing and Top Feeling and Our Man Luke were lingering. None was threatening Candy Arches, but there may be some to watch next time out.
