Retraceable Comes Up a Little Short in Ontario Lassie

Milwaukee Appeal broke on top, but dropped back and let D' Country take control early. She was pressured by Moonlit Beauty. Milwaukee Appeal secured a stalking position. Retraceable (Medaglia d'Oro) was sitting about mid-pack. On the turn, Milwaukee Appeal drew even with D' Country. Those two dueled for awhile, but Milwaukee Appeal soon took command. At the same time, Retraceable was making her move 4-wide. She was coming and coming, but she couldn't catch Milwaukee Appeal and had to settle for 2nd. Read more about the Ontario Lassie here.

Flashing Red Over Maraschino

Fast Annie held a brief lead, but then fell back leaving Mia's First and Flashing to duel. Mia's First, who was wide throughout, went 5-wide in the stretch and took the lead. But, she continued to drift and Flashing was able to catch her for the win. Maraschino Red (Medaglia d'Oro) was in contention early on while wide, but tired a bit and finished 5th. Not a bad debut.

Bling Rings One Up Over Marie and Peaseporridge

Starry Valley and Sweet Deceit dueled early. Sweet Deceit took the lead and then tired. But, Starry Valley had no chance to enjoy it as Ring Bling was on the move. She hit the lead on turn and pulled away, with a final margin of better than 9. Bear's Marie (Congaree), who drew in off the also-elgible lead, stalked the early pace, but couldn't make up much ground and finished 5th. Peaseporridge (Pleasantly Perfect) had a good spot early in 5th, but was racing wide and tired to 11th. Bear's Marie was claimed by Maggi Moss and will now be trained by Steve Asmussen.

Resplendently Closing Fast

Cut the Check took to the lead, pursued by Papa Clem, Undeniable Truth, and Indian Love. Cut the Check continued to lead, however, while setting some quick fractions (:22.35, :45.09). Resplendently (Birdstone) was near the back of the pack early. At the top of the stretch, he still only had two horses beat. But, on the turn, he began moving on the outside and flew by most of the pack. He couldn't catch Cut the Check or Indian Love, but his performance hinted of better things to come. It is true that he was closing into fast fractions, but no one else was making up ground.

This is an allowance race for those who have not won a race other than maiden, claiming, starter, or Pennsylvania bred. Interestingly, Cradle of Peace (Peace Rules - Cat's Cradle by Flying Paster) and Rule of Motion (Peace Rules - Poetic Motion by Green Dancer) both have 2 wins. Cradle of Peace broke his maiden in his second start on June 19 at Churchill Downs and then ran in 2 claiming races at Delaware Park. He finished 2nd on September 15, and then was victorious on September 30. Since then, he's worked 5 times, including a bullet 4 furlong work on October 31. Rule of Motion won his debut on July 5 at Philadelphia Park, then ran in 2 starter allowance races at that track. He finished fifth on October 13, and won on November 1. He's had one work since that run.

The only other entrant with 2 wins is Fast Eddie (Stroll - Icee Sara by Eskimo), who has run 7 total times. His first win was in his 2nd start on Penn National on May 21. His 2nd win came in his most recent start, in a claiming race on November 25 at Penn National. Along the way, Fast Eddie ran in two Pennsylvania-bred stakes. He also finished 4th, behind Cradle of Peace, on September 30.

Also running in Fast Eddie's November 25 win were Sheik of Dubai (Essence of Dubai - For My Alyse by Talc), who was third, and Indomitable Prince (Duckhorn - Rynot by Caveat), who was 5th. Sheik of Dubai has made 8 starts, breaking his maiden 3 starts back on November 1 at Penn National. Since that race, he's finished 3rd twice. Indomitable Prince has run 7 times, breaking his maiden in his 2nd start on August 20 at Penn National.

J D's Firecracker (Cetewayo - Gertigo by M. Double M.), by freshman sire Cetewayo, has faced both Indomitable Prince and Sheik of Dubai. He finished 2nd in Indominable Prince's maiden win on August 20 at Penn National, and broke his maiden on September 13 at Penn National. In that race, Sheik of Dubai was 4th. Since breaking his maiden, J D's Firecracker has run twice, finishing 2nd on the Meadowlands turf on October 10, and 5th at Philadelphia Park on October 19. He's worked once since that last start.

Also by a first-year sire is Philly Bound (Werblin - Candid Lady by Real Quiet) by Werblin. Philly Bound most recently finished 4th, behind Rule of Motion, on November 1 at Philadelphia Park in what was his 4th start. His maiden win came in his third start, which was on October 13 at Philadelphia Park. In that race, he went gate-to-wire. Philly Bound has worked twice at Philadelphia Park since his last run.

Kissin' Me (Belong to Me - Kissin' Jeb by Jeblar) and Pride of the Fleet (Parker's Storm Cat - Fancy Dancer by Citidancer) broke their maidens in their most recent starts. Kissin' Me's victory came on November 18 at Penn National, where he stalked the early pace. He finished 2nd and 4th in two previous starts. Pride of the Fleet also won his third start, going gate-to-wire on September 25 to win by more than 7 at Laurel. He's had four works since that win.
