Patena is Displayed Over Oconee

The filly, Hooh Why, sprinted to the lead. She put daylight between herself and the field, as the boys chased in vain. But then, Patena emerged from the pack to pose a real challenge to the leader. He seemed poised to go on by, but Hooh Why was not easy to overcome. Those two dueled to the wire with Patena just getting up for the win. Oconee (Congaree) made a big move on the outside and seemed about to make some noise, but he flattened out and finished 8th. Read more about the Display here.

Articulating Outspeaks Nancy's Voyage

Friendly Inn broke on top, but was soon headed by Articulating. Those two dueled for a time, but finally Articulating pulled away and Friendly Inn tired. Oski Oski and Again Eleven closed well to pick up 2nd and third. Nancy's Voyage (Medaglia d'Oro) was off slow and came on late to beat one. It was a good learning experience for her, however, as the jockey kept her close to the hedge early on.

Dessy Flies by Ivory Bill

Good Fight set the early fractions, which were fairly fast. Gelfand and Dessy were never far back. Gelfand moved first, hitting the lead in the stretch. But sticking close was Dessy who came wide and went after the lead. Gelfand hung tough, but Dessy prevailed at the end. Ivory Bill (Birdstone) was off slow, swung out wide and passed some late to finish 7.

Naos Too Much for Dukes Alley

Channingstown (Speightstown) was a scratch. Dukes Alley (Speightstown) was a little aggravated in the post parade. Footcandles, on the other hand, look great in the post parade. However, when loading, Footcandles reared in the gate, had to be backed out and was scratched. Once they reloaded everyone and broke, Shabaab went for the lead, but Dukes Alley was right there with him. These two only lasted up for a half, as they began to fade after that. Storm Door took over at that point, but Naos was getting in gear and rolled by for the win.

Haynesfield (Speightstown - Nothing Special by Tejabo) becomes the latest Maiden Watch graduate to try stakes company as he goes against fellow New Yorkers in the Damon Runyon at Aqueduct. Haynesfield finished 3rd in his debut at Saratoga on August 29, and then broke his maiden next time out on September 25 at Belmont. He has not raced since then, but he has been working regularly at Belmont.

Legal Consent (Officer - Flame Trick by Mt. Livermore) finished 3nd in Haynesfield's maiden win. In his next start, Legal Consent won the New York Breeders' Futurity on October 4 at Finger Lakes. He then finished 4th in the Sleepy Hollow Stakes at Belmont on October 18. Legal Consent has been working regularly since then, including a bullet 5 furlong work on December 2.

Tall Poppi (Intidab - Jupiter Hollow by Salt Lake) and Fiddlers Afleet (Northern Afleet - American Tango by Quiet American) also ran in the Sleepy Hollow, finishing 2nd and 3rd respectfully. Tall Poppi also finished 2nd in the Bertram F. Bongard Stakes on September 21 at Belmont, and 2nd in the New York Stallion Great White Way Stakes on November 9 at Aqueduct. Since then, he's worked three times, including bullets on November 26 and December 2. Fiddlers Afleet, who broke his maiden by 6 lengths going gate-to-wire on September 19 at Belmont, most recently finished 2nd in an allowance race at Aqueduct on November 7. He's had two works since then.

The only other entrant with stakes experience is Show Me the Cash (Artax - Unbridled Cyclone by Judge T C), who finished 2nd in the Pilgrim Stakes on October 1, and 5th in the I Take All Stakes on October 26. Both of those races were on the yielding Belmont turf. Show Me the Cash also broke his maiden on the turf. In his only dirt start, he finished 8th at Saratoga on August 15. Interestingly, Fiddlers Afleet was 2nd in that race.

Karakorum Legend (Mutakddim - Sommerfest by El Prado (IRE)) is the only other entrant in the main body of the race who has faced winners. He broke his maiden in his 2nd start, on the Belmont turf on October 13. He then finished 8th in a grass allowance race at Aqueduct on November 20. This will be Karakorum Legend's first run on dirt.

The rest of the main body entrants come into the Damon Runyon off of their maiden wins. Always On the Move (Chapel Royal - Always Belong by Belong to Me), by freshman sire Chapel Royal, broke his maiden in his second start on November 8 at Aqueduct. In that 6.5 furlong race, he stalked the pace early before taking command.

That's Rich (Chapel Royal - That's a Take by Take Me Out), who is also by Chapel Royal, was a winner in his first start, on October 26 at Belmont. He was a pace factor from the start and took the win by 2 lengths.

Harmonic Man (Manlove - Shifty Shelly by Scarlet Ibis) took three tries to break his maiden, but did so impressively by 8 at Mountaineer on November 17.

Thunder Roar (Thunder Gulch - Hot Golden Jet by A. P Jet) finished 10th in his first start, on the Aqueduct turf on October 31. He was then a winner in his next start on November 21 at Aqueduct when switched to the dirt.

On the AE list for this one is Dear Cat (Catienus - Dear by Island Whirl). Dear Cat broke his maiden in his 9th start, coming from off the pace on a sloppy track at the Meadowlands on November 15. He then tried allowance company on November 28 at Aqueduct, finishing 6th.
