La Equivocada is the Right One

La Equivocada is the Right One in the Alsito Roig Stakes

La Equivocada (Smarty Jones) broke well and went after the early leader, Highly Motivated. These two dueled for a time, but La Equivocada began to move up on the outside. She took the lead on the turn and drew away from a tiring Highly Motivated. She drifted out a bit in the stretch, but had more than enough to hold off the closers. La Equivocada, who was her sire's first winner, now is his first stakes winner. I believe that La Equivocada means the Wrong One, hence the title of the post.

Laragh is the Star(let)

The Hollywood Starlet was all about Laragh. She took the lead out of the gate and was never seriously challenged, although Wynning Ride was a determined 2nd. There was a moment on the backstretch when the whole field seemed to get to Laragh, with Pamona Ball (Pleasantly Perfect) briefly putting her head in front. But, this seemed to be more a result of Laragh slowing down than the field catching her. Pamona Ball weakened after that, and finished 6th.

The Perfect Pitch

Pitched Perfectly (Pleasantly Perfect) broke well and went right to the lead. He was pressured by our other runner, Footcandles (Speightstown). These two stuck close for a time, but then Footcandles began to weaken. At that point, Haitian Sensation took up the chase. He appeared to be making a move on Pitched Perfectly, when he took an awkward step. This allowed Pitched Perfectly to reestablish his lead, as he drew off becoming Pleasantly Perfect's 10th winner. According to the chart, Haitian Sensation's strange step was the result of shying from paper on the track.

Beso Negro held the early advantage, but she was soon overtaken by East to Eden. That one led into the stretch, but Cinque Bella was looming. She swung outside and wore down East to Eden. Spirit Seeker (Peace Rules) was off slowly and trailed the field early on. She passed a few in the stretch to take fourth and should move forward off of the effort.

Nowhere to Hide for Longandstrong

Haps Alphabet Soup, Longandstrong (Birdstone), Repeal, and Nowhere to Hide went after the lead. Repeal soon fell back, but the other three mixed it up into the turn. At that point, Nowhere to Hide took control. He was not home free, however, as both Mas Macho and Sky's the Limit were coming. Nowhere to Hide managed to hold them off, as Sky's the Limit outfinished Mas Macho for 2nd. Longandstrong retreated after his early efforts, finishing 7th. Walloon Storms Mein Fraulein

Jehan dueled with Betty's Champ and Bell Got Even for the early lead. Yes It's Barbara was also a pace factor. Mein Fraulein (Saarland) was never far back and began to make a move. At that point, she was bumped by eventual winner Walloon who was beginnng her rally. Mein Fraulein recovered to run evenly late for fourth. I'm not saying that she would have won, but I do think that the bump might have cost her third. Winners Got Even made up late ground to pick up third. By the way, a Walloon is a French speaking Belgium, so I thought it was ironic that Walloon smacked into Mein Fraulein.

Bombarding Bugle Ann

There was a battle up front for the early lead, as High Lion, Sing With Me, Tibi, and Bombarda all wanted it. Bombarda dropped back and let the other three mix it up. In the meantime, Bugle Ann (Birdstone) was settled near the back. Soon, however, she began to pick off opponents. Up front, Tibi emerged with the lead, but she was soon collared by Bombarda. Bugle Ann and Silver Chain were both closing, taking separate paths. Silver Chain came up the inside, while Bugle Ann was rallying 6 wide. Bombarda managed to hold off those two, as Bugle Ann outfinished Silver Chain for second. This was nice race for Bugle Ann who showed a lot of determination.
