Gemswick Looks Stylish in an Old Hat

As expected, Elusive Heat went to the lead, setting nice fractions. Gemswick Park (Speightstown) let her go, but wasn't far off. On the turn, Gemswick Park made her move. But, Elusive Heat was tough and wouldn't let her by. Then, Frolic's Dream joined in the fun on the outside. The fillies hit the line together, but Gemswick got her nose in front. All three fillies ran outstanding races, and it will be great to see them face-off again. By the way, I haven't seen any 2nd crop sire statistics yet, but I have to think Speightstown's leading the bunch early with Haynesfield and Gemswick Park over the weekend.

Chattertown Deadheats

Chattertown (Speightstown) came out of the gate running and went right to the lead. She was pursued for a time by Eye of Taurus, but she soon shook clear of that one. However, One Smokin' Lady came rolling and got her head in front. But Chattertown was game, and fought back. They hit the wire together and even the camera couldn't separate them, as it was a deadheat. They were well-clear of Gracious Victory, who took the 3rd spot.

Green Means Victory

Light Green (Pleasantly Perfect) broke well and went to the lead. Iberian Gate was chasing, but she tired, and Light Green was able to establish a clear lead. However, favorite Lawless Falls made her move in the stretch and was slowly gaining. But, the wire came soon enough for a determined Light Green, who picked up the win. Those two were double-digit lengths in front of the rest of the field.

Steve is a Brite Lite Shining Over Mimsa

Pretty Emmy, Suberi, and Steve's Brite Lite battled for early supremacy. Pretty Emmy gave up first, as Steve's Brite Lite took the lead. Suberi was sticking close, but couldn't gain on Steve's Brite Lite. Deep Ocean was along for third. Mimsa (Congaree) was wide most of the race, and ran evenly to finish 5th.

Our Dahlia Posts Victory Over Miracle Baby

Chary took control early, pursued by Cades Bay. Also near the front were Our Dahlia and Magical Affair. Cades Bay took the lead after 6 furlongs, as Chary dropped back. Her lead was short-lived, however, as first Magical Affair and then Our Dahlia surged by. Our Dahlia, who had to steady on the backstretch, went on to win by almost 3. Miracle Baby (Smarty Jones) was bumped and steadied at the start, and didn't show much interest after that, finishing 7th.

Coach Gravy Overruns the Desert Fox

As predicted, this one came off the turf and was run at a mile on the dirt. Budget and Cat Springs were scratched, and Rabbit Tracks and March West drew into the race. Longshot Atlantic Slick set the early pace, pursured by Coach Gravy. Coach Gravy finally took the lead late, but was all out to hold off the late charge from Rabbit Tracks. Atlantic Slick did well to hold on for third. Desert Fox (Saarland) didn't run much, passing a couple of tired ones to finish 7th. I'd like to see Desert Fox back on the turf. Hopefully, next time the rains will stay away.

I got to see Gemswick win and it was a very exciting race. I had her to win so it was even better. I cant believe everyone thought Elusive would win considering who Gemswick had run against previously. She was game and as she ran by me her head was in front. I knew she had it. It was the best race of the day for sure.

On Thursday at Santa Anita look out for a filly called Panorama Ridge.  She is by Empire Maker out of a 2 time Group 1 winner in France called Nebraska Tornado who is by Storm Cat.  I very much doubt that this filly will be fully wound up on her initial appearance at the track but she must be followed.

This is class breeding of the highest order from the class operation of Juddmonte Farms, Bobby Frankel & Garrett Gomez.
