Rubies and Diamonds Shine

The results of the Alma d'Oro poll yesterday, asking if you are adding him to your Derby list, clearly show us to be a conservative bunch. The overwhelming winner was, "Not Yet." Frankly, that's where I stand as well. Wait and see seems best at this point.

Bhangaloo Ruby (Peace Rules) took all the early action at the window, and certainly looked good in the paddock. She broke well, but Cherokee Caucus took the lead from the rail. She was closely followed by Luster. Cherokee Caucus began to retreat, as Luster took command and Bhangaloo Ruby ranged up in second. Slowly, but surely Bhangaloo Ruby was able to wear down a stubborn Luster and take the lead. These two were better than 4 lengths clear of third-place finisher Mayhaw. There was a long stewards' inquiry into the stretch run of this one. There certainly were some bumps exchanged between the top two finishers. To my eye, it looked as though Luster initiated the contact by coming out, and then Bhangaloo Ruby bumped back. The stewards must have seen it that way too, because there was no change in the placings.

Frosty Diamond Finds a Warm Spot in the Winner's Circle

Fullofsong was first out, pressed by Cherokee Bull and Frosty Diamond (Medaglia d'Oro). Cherokee Bull gave way, but Frosty Diamond continued his pursuit. He took the lead on the turn from a rank Fullofsong. Frosty Diamond was wide, but well clear, as he drew off under a hand ride. Cross Village and Sharpsburg Shuffle, who both had to steady on the turn, made up some ground to take 2nd and 3rd.

Be Fair Too Much for Maiden Watch

Three Maiden Watch horses in this one (after the scratch of Miss Mary K (Speightstown)), but the best we could do was third. She's Our Annie (Medaglia d'Oro) tried, dueling for the early lead with Koka Kola Kitty, despite veering in at the start. Both of these were overtaken by Be Fair, the half-sister to Macho Again, who came from off the pace to go by everyone. She ducked in in response to the whip in the stretch, but she was well-clear of the field. Labeled, who was never far off the pace, got into the second sport. She's Our Annie just held third over Payton d'Oro (Medaglia d'Oro), who closed with good interest (farther, farther, please run her farther). Peace Reigns (Peace Rules) raced mid-pack early, but weakened to last. By the way, Be Fair races for the same connections as Be Smart (Smarty Jones). Apparently, there is a Be theme afoot.

Yet another mistake that i have made.  Mr Hot Stuff is of course Colonel John's full brother although so far he has not shown much indication of having the same kind of ability but you never know!!!!

God Bless

Best wishes

Abbie Knowles - Mr. Hot Stuff certainly showed improvement yesterday compared to his first two outings. He may be one of those that takes awhile to figure things out.
