Singing a Perfect Tune

Perfect Song (Pleasantly Perfect), Happy Bull, and Count the Gold all went after the early lead, with Perfect Song on the outside. Perfect Song took the lead after a half and quickly began to move away. He was geared down at the end, but crossed the line more than 6 in front. The fractions for this race were impressive, :22.02, :45.34, and :57.33, with a final time of 1:09.18. Interestingly, Perfect Song was 8-1 on the morning line and went off at 7-2, guess the word had gotten out about this one.

The Polls Are Closed

The polls are closed regarding which stallions to focus on in 2009, and the winners are: Ghostzapper, Afleet Alex, Rock Hard Ten, Saint Liam, and Kitten's Joy. Thanks to everyone for voting and for suggesting other stallions. I may add one more after I see how many 2-year olds the chosen 5 have.

Notice that I said "focus on." Even though we are focused on these stallions, it does not mean that other 2-year olds will be ignored. Some prominent 2-year olds of 2008 whose debuts and/or maiden victories were profiled here, who are not by Maiden Watch sires, include Run Away and Hide, Street Hero, Stardom Bound, Charitable Man, Beethoven, Evita Argentina, and Theregoesjojo. Also, if you feel strongly about another stallion, please feel free to post updates about his progeny in the comments section. The more the merrier, I am just not physically or mentally able to follow them all.

You may be wondering what happens to the horses that we have been following, 2006 offspring of the Maiden Watch sires of 2008 (Birdstone, Congaree, Medaglia d'Oro, Peace Rules, Pleasantly Perfect, Saarland, Smarty Jones, Speightstown). I will continue to focus on them until the first entries for the new stallions are received. After that, only stakes entries will be mentioned, and these will be regulated to the "Also in Action" section of the blog. However, please continue to comment about their offspring, both those that have been mentioned and new ones. By the way, Medaglia d'Oro, Speightstown, Birdstone, Peace Rules, and Congaree all finished in the top 10 freshman sire list for 2008.

I know that several of you have asked about Saarland. Word came today that he has officially been pensioned due to fertility problems.
