A Legacy of Stone

Persistence paid off for Stone Legacy (Birdstone), who finished 2nd a tantalizing 3 times before breaking through with a win. She was 5 wide in the first turn, and continued wide throughout much of the race. But, she kept coming and prevailed. Poplar Girl was closing, but she couldn't catch Stone Legacy. Stone Legacy has now earned $48,532 in 6 starts. Sue's Update (Medaglia d'Oro) was involved from the beginning, but couldn't quite break through, finishing fourth. However, she was just a neck out of third. Indemand (Saarland) and Doo Woopa Do (Medaglia d'Oro) were near the back throughout, finishing 10th and 11th.

A Falling Knife Stops the Peace Pipe

Eternal Pursuit and Falling Knife were in their own race, pulling free from the rest of the field. Eternal Pursuit had the advantage for much of the race, but Falling Knife moved ahead in the stretch and drew off to a more than 5 length win. Peace Pipe (Peace Rules) tried to stick with the top 2 early, but tired and finished 6th.

Bakarat (filly; Peace Rules - Honeycomb Honey by Relaunch) led practically the entire race, and Sossego (filly; Peace Rules - As a Day in June by Fly So Free) closed late to complete the Maiden Watch exacta in the first at Gulfstream, a 6.5 furlong maiden claiming race. Mydadsperfect (filly; Pleasantly Perfect - Red Cell by Geri) did not draw in off of the AE list.

Himynameissarah (filly; Saarland - Pacific Island by Grand Slam) stalked early and then drew off to a 2 length victory in the 7th at Oaklawn, a mile claiming race. She went off at 21-1 in this one, picking up her 2nd win.

Results for February 13

Fufty Too (colt; Speightstown - Cape North by Capote) pressed the early pace, drew even, and then pulled away to pick up his maiden win in the 2nd at Oaklawn Park. This race, a 6 furlong maiden claiming contest, also featured Smart Attire (colt; Smarty Jones - Alaska Queen by Time for a Change), who was up close early, but faded to 7th.

In Maiden Special Weight company at Delta Downs, Speightstown Belle (Speightstown - Mean Imogene by Silver Deputy) hopped at the start, but then ranged up to take the lead over Me and Ave. It was close for a time, but then Speightstown Belle pulled away to take the victory by 8. Adina Speightstown (Speightstown - Adina by Seattle Slew) was in a good spot early, but weakened and finished 5th.

Mythical Power (colt; Congaree - School for Scandal by Is It True) showed a lot of tenacity in his race, fighting back after being headed, but had to settle for 2nd in Race 2 at Santa Anita. By the way, Turk was a scratch.

Quite Perfect (filly; Pleasantly Perfect - Note Taker by Editor's Note) closed well to take third in her debut at Laurel, despite being forced 6-wide. This is definitely one to watch for next time out.

Cradle of Peace (gelding; Peace Rules - Cat's Cradle by Flying Paster) rallied late in his 6 furlong claiming race at Laurel, but came up a nose short in 2nd.

Strike Jak (filly; Peace Rules - Sunset Crest by Strike the Gold) did not draw in off the AE list for his allowance race at Turf Paradise.

Even if I was working on a full night's sleep, I couldn't preview all the maiden special weight races for February 14. Instead, I've chosen 3 to focus on, one from Fair Grounds, one from Gulfstream Park, and one from Santa Anita. Let's hope I've chosen wisely. I will also touch on the Stakes races featuring Maiden Watch graduates, of which there are four.
