Saturday Shenanigans

Remus Makes his Quest

A great finish in this one, but unfortunately none of our three horses were involved. Congaree Park (Congaree) did give it a good try, dueling early, before gaining the lead. But, he weakened late and finished 7th. Perfectionism (Pleasantly Perfect) bobbled at the start, chased the pace, and then faded to 11th (last). However, his stablemate, Meteore was third. Free Beer (Medaglia d'Oro) was back early, made a bit of a move, but then backtracked to 10th. Instead it was Remus and Questing who dueled late, neither giving an inch as they neared the wire. The winner was Remus by a bob of the head.

Shesbyinthesterway finds Heaven

Quiet Wakita took the early lead, but Shesbyinthesterway was sticking close. She took the lead in the turn, as Quiet Wakita faded. Giddyup Gadfly closed with interest, but couldn't catch Quiet Wakita. Perfectly Campbell (Pleasantly Perfect) started running too late again, passing some tired ones to finish 5th. By the way, I'm pretty sure that Shesbyinthesterway is a reference to Stairway to Heaven, hence the title of this recap.

Perfect Song is probably the one who interests me most today and ATR should show that race so will cheer him on!

Also hope Polished is not so careless as to lose his jockey this time!!!!   Hopefully with the partnership remaining intact he  will run a solid race!

By the way i posted a reply to your question to me about Warriors Reward on the "Kittens" site.

I will definitely watch that Dunkirk/Warriors Reward race again.  I do feel it is a very significant one as I am sure so many do!

Thanks again for all your research for these articles.

First off, does anyone know a horseplayer from Reno named Rick Cook?  Lost track of him back in 1994 in Texas.  Today is gonna be a great day!  I feel like we can make some money at the windows today with a little luck going in the way of Europe, Presto Change, and Polished.

Blood-Horse Staff

Davy M - Can't help you with Rick Cook.

I was curious about your mention of Presto Change O and Polished, two horses that lost their riders last time. Is this a coincidence or an angle? I kind of like the dnf angle myself. Some people see dnf and automatically toss a horse. But a dnf for a lost rider is not the same as pulled up or something similar.

Geauxxx Pleasant Song!!!

I hear very positive reports about Eagle Poise in the last at Gulfstream today,  Keep this one onside for the future.

Lost rider can sometimes mean, horse was too fast for rider, lol.  Its been my experiece that sometimes a young horse will duck in or out, esapecially in their first out and loose the rider.  Ir even buck his first time out in a real race with other horses.

21 Feb 2009 6:13 PM
Blood-Horse Staff

Davy M - well, the last out lost rider angle was looking pretty good today. Presto Change O won and Polished finished a good 2nd.

I always like to watch the behavior of riderless horses. Do they keep running, stick to the rail, go wide, or just start acting stupid.

Anyone know any of these maidens at retama park in the 6th on the grass?

21 Feb 2009 9:54 PM
Abbie Knowles

Well done Presto Change O and polished.  Agree with all those that don't discard horses who lose their jockeys.  There can be any number of reasons for it.

Not sure what was up with Perfect Song he appeared to run a very flat sort of race, looked distintcly uncomfortable in the home straight and was lugging in towards the winner.  He certainly did not run the same sort of race as in his previous start. I hope he is ok and was just having an off day or something!  I still love him!!!!  I never give up on my favourites!!!!

God Bless

Best wishes
