Can you believe they are running the first maiden race for two year olds at Santa Anita tomorrow at 2F? I wish the other tracks would follow Churchill's lead and not allow a two year old to run until it is physically two.

Also, I'm excited about this year's first crop sires. FYI, I’d like you to take a look at my E-Book, 2009 Guide to Freshmen Sires. I’m not selling anything; the book is free to everyone. The Guide is a comprehensive, statistical and analytical review of the sires whose progeny will hit the track for the first time this year. It was created for handicappers, breeders and thoroughbred enthusiasts; providing information on the new sires and what you can expect from their first crop. I spent six months compiling it and I think you and the readers of your blog will enjoy it. It is at www.ironmaidensthoroughbreds.com

Thanks!

Laura R - I'm not sure what you mean by "physically 2". All of the horses must be a full 24 months old to start in this race.

Thanks, I was mis-informed. I did further research and noted that the California tracks instituted this rule in January.

I looked at the Santa Anita race - interesting that most of the males entered are already geldings. Maybe a realization that in current economic times there won't be so large a demand for stallions.

Also 2 entered by a stallion I have never heard of -  Nineeleven.

He is a 16 year old Phone Trick horse - don't know how I missed him as he stand in California.

AnneM - It looks like he has had fairly small crops. I mostly know him as a sire of Cal-bred 2-year olds from last year's blog. Here's some more info: www.ctba.com/.../NineelevenPed.pdf

He ran 11 times, won a Maiden Special Weight at Stockton.
