Cater to Kitten (colt; Kitten's Joy - Olinka by Wolfhound) worked 3 furlongs in :36.00 at the Churchill Downs Training track. Cater to Kitten has been entered in a race on Friday, April 3 at Keeneland.

In This Life (filly; Ghostzapper - Spy Novel by Broad Brush) went 3 furlongs in :39.10 at Adena Springs.

Dean's Kitten (colt; Kitten's Joy - Summer Theatre by Ide), Ken's Kitten (colt; Kitten's Joy - Cruise Line (GB) by Rainbow Quest), Russian Kitten (filly; Kitten's Joy - Nikita by Slew City Slew), and Scottkeith'skitten (colt; Kitten's Joy - Miss Bergdorf by Old Trieste) went 4 furlongs at the Churchill Downs Training track, recording times of :49.60, :50.80, :50.60, and :50.00 respectfully.

Tribecky (filly; Saint Liam - Double Jeopardy by Horse Chestnut (SAF)) worked 3 furlongs at Keeneland in 34.60, fastest of 10 works.

2-Years at Gulfstream and Santa Anita

Gulfstream and Santa Anita both have races for 2-year old fillies on their April 1 card. Although there are no fillies by Maiden Watch horses entered, I thought that I would mention those by first year sires.

In the Gulfstream race, which will be run at 2.5 furlongs at 2:42 PM ET (Race 4), there is Boastingmyrights (Boastful - Read Me My Rights by Lit de Justice) and Youngwidowlee (Purge - Miss Phone Chatter by Phone Trick). Boastingmyrights is by Boastful, a stakes winner on the turf who earned $315,698 in 38 starts. He also finished 3rd in the 2002 Maker's Mark Mile (gr. IIT). Boastful was unplaced in 2 starts at 2. Boastingmyrights is the first foal out of the winning mare Read Me My Rights, who earned $234,680. Grade I winner, Purge, sire of Youngwidowlee, earned $905,434 in 15 starts, and was 1 for 1 at 2. He won the Cigar Mile (gr. I) in 2005, and the Peter Pan (gr. II) and the Jim Dandy (gr. II) in 2004. Youngwidowlee's dam, Miss Phone Chatter, is a full-sister to champion Phone Chatter.

There are also 2 first-crop sires represented at Santa Anita, which has a post time of 4:00 PM ET (race 1) and a distance of 2 furlongs. Rivergrade Girl (Kela - Run Cat Run by Sir Cat) is by grade I winner Kela. Kela won or placed in 8 stakes, including victories in the Bing Crosby (gr. I), the Pat O'Brien (gr. II), and the Texas Mile (gr. III), and a 2nd in the 2004 Breeders' Cup Sprint (gr. I). Kela, who earned $1,022,527, did not race at 2. Stakes-placed Run Cat Run, dam of Rivergrade Girl, won her 2-year old debut and was third in the Salem County Stakes that year. Rivergrade Girl is Run Cat Run's 2nd foal. On the AE list for this race is Kitty in the Bag (Wildcat Heir - Gold Bag Lady by Friedly Lover) from the first crop of Wildcat Heir. Grade I winner Wildcat Heir won his 2-year old debut and was 2nd in the Sanford Stakes (gr. II) at 2. Overall, he earned $424,460, and won the Frank J. De Francis Memorial Dash (gr. I). Kitty in the Bag, a $20,000 yearling, is out of the unraced mare Gold Bag Lady. Gold Bag Lady has produced Panhandler, a group I winner in Mexico and a winner of 2 races at 2. Gold Bag Lady is a daughter of stakes winner Bag Lady Jane, a debut winner at 2, who also won the Princess Elizabeth Stakes that year.

Summer Bird (colt; Birdstone - Hong Kong Squall by Summer Squall), who broke his maiden nicely in his most recent start on March 19 at Oaklawn Park, is among the late nominees for the Triple Crown.

Some of you have asked about Ocean Colors. I have not been actively tracking her this year, but I did see that she worked on March 29 at Keeneland, going 4 furlongs in :53.00.

Results for March 30

Mostly Peace (filly; Peace Rules - Ms. Mostly by Copelan) raced near the pace in her Claiming race at Philadelphia Park, but lost a little ground late. She finished a respectful 3rd at 11-1.

Results for March 31

Three Peace Rules fillies faced off in a 5 furlong Maiden Claiming race at Tampa Bay Downs. Let Peace Rule (Peace Rules - French Silk by French Deputy) chased the early pace, couldn't catch the winner, but was best of the rest in 2nd. Hippie Princess (Peace Rules - Royal Pelliknow by Raja's Revenge) raced evenly in 4th the whole way. And, Peacephilly (Peace Rules - Afillyate by Blushing John) was in mid-pack early and then weakened to finish 9th.

Prosecca (filly; Speightstown - Pink Champagne by Awesome Again) finished 5th in 5.5 furlong Allowance race at Mountaineer.

The only time City Song beat Kansas Kitty was on January 10 at Laurel, when City Song was 2nd and Kansas Kitty was 3rd. Kansas Kitty has run 6 total times, recording 2 seconds and 3 thirds. She is out of stakes winner Remuda, who earned $102,067. Remuda has produced 3 winners, including grade III stakes-placed Rungius. City Song's four starts have produced a 2nd and a 3rd. She is out of the winning mare Reyri's Song. Reyri's Song has produced 5 winners, including stakes winner Tyaskin.

Disputed Crown (Domestic Dispute - Why the Wind by Miswaki) has run twice, most recently finishing 2nd at Charles Town on March 10. Hey Smarty (Smarty Jones - Miss Seffens by Dehere), who finished 2nd in his debut at Louisiana Downs back on October 2, resurfaces in this 6 furlong contest at Oaklawn Park. Hey Smarty has been working regularly at Oaklawn, since early February to prepare for his return to the races. These works include two straight bullets, at 6 furlongs on March 15, and at 5 furlongs on March 23. Stakes winner Miss Seffens, dam of Hey Smarty, earned $502,600.

The only non-3-year old in this race for 3, 4, and 5-year olds, is 5-year old Giant Beltway (Giant's Causeway - Belterra by Unbridled). He has run 4 times, 3 times at Bay Meadows in 2008 and once at Oaklawn in 2009. His Oaklawn start was on March 14 at 6 furlongs, where he finished 2nd. Giant Beltway sold for $70,000 as a horse in training in 2007. He is the first foal out of grade II winner Belterra, who earned $324,859.

Finishing 10th in Giant Beltway's March 14 was Fast Draw (Gone West - Bright Candles by El Gran Senor). Fast Draw has made 8 total starts, finishing 2nd once and third four times. Classical Closing (Brahms - April Closing by Defrere) and Ohio State (Distorted Humor - Buckeye Search by Meadowlake) met on March 1 at Oaklawn, running 6 furlongs. Classical Closing was 2nd, and Ohio State finished 5th. Classical Closing also finished 2nd on February 13 at Oaklawn, in another 6 furlong race. He is the first foal out of the unraced mare April Closing. April Closing is a half-sister to 3 winners, including Classical Matter. Classical Matter is by Brahms, sire of Classical Closing. Tone It Down (colt; Medaglia d'Oro - Chattin by Rollicking) and Casa d'Oro (Medaglia d'Oro - Six Pack Sally by Tale of the Cat) face each other and 4 others in a mile and a sixteenth Allowance/Optional Claiming contest at Laurel, post time 2:56 PM ET (race 6). These two have met before, in a mile and 70 yard Allowance race on February 15 at Philadelphia Park. In that one, Casa d'Oro was third, and Tone It Down was 5th. Last time out, Tone It Down finished 2nd (behind Perfect Song) in a mile Allowance/Optional Claiming race at Laurel on March 14.
