Payton Becomes a Stakes Winner in an Instant

Mindy Sue (Pleasantly Perfect) and Belong Again dueled early, with Payton d'Oro (Medaglia d'Oro) sitting just off the pace. She came running on the outside in the stretch and glided to the lead. She continued to widen her advantage to win by better than 4. Another impressive stakes winning filly for Medaglia d'Oro. Mindy Sue had no answer Payton d'Oro, but she kept a clear advantage on the rest of the field. If Mindy Sue could break away from these Medaglia d'Oro fillies, she should win a few herself. Summer Bird - From Maiden Winner to Graded Stakes Placed

Old Fashioned settled into the lead, pursued by Ziegfeld and Danger to Society. Flat Out also took a run at him. Papa Clem was reserved in mid-pack. Old Fashioned shook free of his pursuers, but couldn't hold off the closing kick of Papa Clem. Summer Bird (Birdstone) was off slow and settled at the back of the pack. He made his move wide and quickly began picking up positions. He moved into third and was getting to the top 2 when the wire came. He galloped out strongly, passing both Papa Clem and Old Fashioned. I know that some will be disappointed that Summer Bird will probably not make the Derby field, but personally I can't wait to see him on those wide turns at Belmont. Watch the Replay.

Dance Caller Outruns Fufty Too and Anaan

Dance Caller made the early pace, but he was closely followed by Fufty Too (Speightstown). They stayed that way for much of the race. It seemed as though Fufty Too would catch Dance Caller at any moment, but that one managed to stay a step ahead. Big favorite Uno Mas was on the scene late to snatch second from Fufty Too. Also making a nice late move was Anaan (Medaglia d'Oro). He was off slowly and stayed near the back for 6 furlongs, before closing well to pick up 5th. Watch the Replay.

I agree, Summer Bird will show up big this summer. The way he picked off those horses and finished showed he can go the distance. What a nice horse. How long was his maiden win?
